I finally got around to making this conversion. I have been wanting to add some Pretorian Guard (pith helmeted IG) to my army but the price of those guys on ebay is really pithing me off. GW doesn't make them any more so I thought I'd make some of my own. I tooks some Wargames Factory Zulu War British firing line heads and helmets and stuck them on some plastic Cadian troops and here is what I got. I think they look dead on for scale. However, when I put cadian heads on the british bodies they didn't work out. Here's the WF heads/helmets next to the IG sniper from the CC Sq box. Do you have a photo of the Cadian heads on the other bodies and do the wargames factory arms fit on the Cadian bodies? Been considering doing this conversion for some time now.

macknight - lots of work still to do on these including those nasty mold lines. The GW plastics did have more lines than the Wargames Factory.
hendrik, I didn't have enough arms without pads to make it work so I added pads to the arms that didn't have them. I wanted a more futuristic feel and since the cadian torsos have body armor it figured the pads would go better.
BG Foster, I put two of the WGF guys together with GW heads, weapons and arms. They look very quirky. Real big heads arms and guns on small bodies. Could pass for a friendly game but I wouldn't take them out of the house. The WGF arms are too small for GW torsos so if you try it you really need to use GW arms. I'll try and post a photo soon.
Thanks for the input guys, I'll post some photos once I come up with a color scheme and get painting

I would consider shaving them off on 1 test mini to see what they look like without pads. at the moment they feel a bit like cadians with a headswap but that's just my opinion though

If you want these to look like praetorians you have a lot of work ahead of you. If you just want them to look cool and different, congratuwelldone, you've made it.
Although, the one the left in the last picture could use a but of trimming of the top of his head. Right now it looks like he's a conehead.

I really wanted the pith helmet look but did not want to shave all the shoulder pads to get a better match with real Pretorians. As mentioned above I also felt the flak vest lent itself to a with shouder pad look. For colors I really wanted to go with the Rourke's drift story/movie feel. The green is a tip of the hat to the 24th Foot who fought at Rourke's Drift The paint job is far from complete and is lacking all shading, highlighting and fine details but you get the idea. I see what you try to do with the green shoulder pads. Personally I think it would look better if they were white as well. The green cuffs are enough to represent the 24th's facings.
All in all, good job.

Thanks for your input, I was afraid white pads with white helms and white lasguns (all my units have white lasguns) would be too much white, but you are right the green is too much. Maybe white pads with a green border or white pads and green lasguns?

I'm a fan of black lasguns. Have you tried that?
After thinking about it some I've realized what I dislike about the green shoulderpads. That particular green is (to me) a really organic one. It looks good on clothes and plants but it would look weird on an unorganic object like a shoulder pad or a lasgun.

The green is a forest green so it is an organic one.
The black lasgun sounds like a good idea to set them off as a seperate/special unit. I'll give it a try along with several other things you've mentioned.
