Yup, that would be it. They make their money off of parts that are in demand, and price them accordingly... You could check Blackdagger games on ebay, I've had good experiences ordering form them. stores.ebay.com/Blackdagger-GamesThey've got the BT plasma gun for $3 but if you really want to save I'd do something like get the 2 space marine plasma pistol arms for $1 and then use the plasma pistols to convert spare lasguns into plasma guns. If you wanted something with more bulk you could cut down a bolter and stick the plasma pistol on that.

Hendrick, it's definitely possible to make them look good, despite the age of the kit. With the advent of liquid GS, the task has become easier, but a good paint job also goes a long way towards making the Catachan infantry squad plastics look decent. I'm working on plasma vets now. Got one built, and am working on a second who will be the Catachan equivalent of the Marine pointing the plasma gun as far away from himself as possible while turning his head away and shielding his face with his other hand.

UpdateFirst squad almost done. Those damn shoulder joints are a pain in the ass. I'll get around to the eyes eventually... someday. I've spent more time with the basing, trying to get that 'jungle' feel just right.

Good work on the bases. I know what you're saying about silly catachans. The two on the right looks like they're trying out for a choir. B)

The two on the right looks like they're trying out for a choir. B) Thats how they get the 5+ flak armor save without wearing any flak armor... their manly voices deflect lasguns.

They're coming along quite nicely--I love the bases!

how do you do your bases? I think basing is just as important as painting the model itself. My basing is a multistep process that takes a little while but I really like how it turns out. 1. Use either modeling sand applied with PVA glue or that new texture mud from Games Workshop. This gives the base that "grit" and for muddy catachans it's a must. 2. Once the 'grit' dries take Khemri Brown and paint over the entire base (sides too). 3. After that dries, use Gryphonne Sepia or Devlan Mud wash and thoroughly wash the recesses on the base. 4. Once the wash dries, use a small applicator like the reverse end of a paint brush and put a tiny dot of pva glue on it. Apply the PVA glue to the base and then dip the base in green flock. It will only stick where the pva glue is and you'll have a patchy muddy base! 5. Any extras you have, like the foliage or vines you see in mine go here. Just use pva glue and apply all the stuff you want. Hope this helps!

Cool thing about Catachans... I can get a normal Cadian guardsman and call him an Imperial Adviser. He looks so out of place in his khaki uniform that he will now be my Master of Ordnance.

New tanks! Got them off ebay already assembled and painted. I'll be adding catachan touches to them (camo netting, crew, etc) but other than that they are tabletop ready! Leman Russ Battle Tank & Executioner

Tanks! Make sure that you drill out the barrels on the sponson heavy bolters. Nothing makes me sadder than heavy bolters that don't have their barrels drilled out. Looking forward to seeing what you're going to do with them. Are you going to do anything with the turret on the Executioner? Right now it looks very odd...

Hmm what do you mean "odd"? it was glued on and I took it off. However, it's exactly as it came in the mail. I notice the base is a little flatter on the executioner underneath the turret than on the Battle Tank. Or do you mean drilling out the barrels on the turret as well?

Well for starters, that's deffo not an Executioner turret, or even an "actual" Leman Russ turret as far as I can tell from the photo. It looks like it may either be some sort of scratch-built affair that the previous owner cobbled together out of bits, or possibly a piece from another company that offers alternative parts to GW kits. An Executioner turret looks like this--with the big plasma cannon, and the sleeker styling of the new type Leman Russ kit: Based on what I can see from style of the lascannon on the hull mount, and the styling of the sponson heavy bolters, it appears that the "Executioner" is one of the original pattern Leman Russ kits, as is the standard Russ you also got. Maybe it's supposed to be an Exterminator turret (the twin-linked autocannon variant)? These are mine, which I converted ages ago using original pattern Leman Russ kit turrets and HW team autocannon bits: I apologize for the bad photos--I took these before learning how to take them properly... Will need to redo them some day!

Oops youre right. Its supposed to be the autocannon one. I see what you mean. The round turret does look a little off to me. Oh well, nothing i can't convert! :-D

Excellent, I look forward to seeing what you come up with in terms of conversion to replace the turret! In terms of how many points of Guard I have, I am not sure. I will have to go through at some point and construct a master list of everything that I have painted up...

Col. Beauregard, I just noticed something else about the "Executioner"... Could you please take a closer picture of the small hatch area behind the sponson, and also take a picture of the area on the upper hull where the turret ring is? Thanks!

Ah, it looks like the person who built it put the small side hatches behind the sponsons on inside out!
