This is a slightly shorter (hopefully) review of my second game. This went a lot better for me, but largely down to luck on the first turn.
My list can be seen on the thread below:
commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=armylist&action=display&thread=16882
I deploy the Ratlings and HWS behind the defence line. advancing the chimmys down the centre with a 30man blob rear guard and LRBT's as flankers. then the other 20man blob advancing at the right hand side with the CCS and PCS between them and the others.
His Force:
Belial
5 Deathwing Knights
5 Deathwing
3 Ravenwing bikes 1 with plasma Gun
3 Ravenwing Knights
10 tactical Marnines 1 with Plasma gun, one with plasma cannon. (used as 2 combat squads)
1 Landspeeder Vengence
1 Dark Talon
We decide that we are going to play a kill points game, with added central objective worth 3 points.
Turn 1
I win deployment and have first turn. after movement is done, quad gun opens fire, and with some lucky dice and Ratlings firing it, I wipe out his vengence which has not yet had chance to even move. my 2 battle cannons now take there turn. by miracle, and the guidance of the emperors hand, the both roll hits, one wiping out the RW Kinghts, the other wiping out the other RW. finally my HWS open up there Krak missiles, and sends the plasma cannon Tactical Marine into the casualty pile, being the only man left visible.
On my opponents turn 1 his Belial and DWK deep strike, hoping to bring his DW's in on DW assault in turn two to Belial's becon.
Turn 2
My Vendetta fails to arrive. Both chimmys empty and the rest of the guardsmen advance onto the objective, with my command squads moving into range of the DWk. I open up firing my Veterans, and both CS's with devasting results. Belial himself is unwounded but his squad is no more. I then open up with both the 30 man and 20 man blobs, causing 19 wounds of which 5 were unsaved.
The Dark Talon failed to arrive. With no becon the DW termies arrived to the left side of my main bulk force, just infront of my defence line, moving his combat squads into the visible cover in the hope of causing some damage. he then opened fire, fireing everything at the larger blob, and killed 12 guardsmen.
Turn 3
Vendetta arrives, heading straight for the termies. Guardsmen consolidate their position on the objective and the 2 LRBT's advance toward the opponent boardedge. The veterans make their way toward the termies along with the PCS and CCS to ensure clear LOS. The Quad gun, HWS, Vendetta, CCS, PCS and both verteran units open fire at the termies wiping them out. now having line of sightall guardsmen coordinate the fire onto one combat squad killing it and the LRBT's open fire on the remaining combat squad with both scattering well out of range.
Dark Talon arrives and causes untold amount of damage to the 30 man bob, killing 10 of the remaining 18 men. with the commissar still alive, another casualty is required to keep the unit there.
After this turn, my opponent decided to conceed.
Debrief
I got very lucky on the first turn. Though I think my success was also largely thanks to his piecemeal approach, with a unit arriving each turn only to be wiped out in the face of overwhelming firepower.
How is it best to handle the Dark Talon though as this appears to be a troop killing machine.
Hope you enjoyed the report, and any insights or critique would be appreciated.
