Right then lads I have a serious question, I have to drive to Scotland on Monday and be in work on tuesday for 8:30,and on aa route planner it says 8hrs!
I'm thinking it may be a tad bit longer due to weather. I'm thinking of stetting off 9am roughly arrive round 6. What dyall think sett off earlier? I'll be driving a hire car( estate)

You say estate but do you know what car it will be? And before you ask yes this will make a difference. Also where are you driving from and will it just be you?

Ok so just you means you can (although I'm sure you wont) drive over the limit, no stopping for anyone else to go to the toilet. How much weight will you have in the car?

Like a few stones gonna make a difference i suspect going over the limit wont be an option once you get into the ice regions... 9am should be fine but dont expect to do alot that night when ya get there Maybe leave at 8 if your not too tired, being tired is the worst! And make sure you stop 3 or 4 times so you dont F your back up... New car, new seat, uncomfortable for a long journey.

If I was you, I would leave to avoid morning rush hour. S you want to avoid roads near big cities around 7.30 / 9am. So leave earlier if you can. Motorway roads are fine in this weather. I'm on the east coast and the rain has washed away the snow over night, so I expect its the same story to the west (which I expect is where you will be travelling (M6 M73 past Carlisle and up to Glasgow)). Where are you ending up? M8 Glasgow to Edinburgh normally is clear if your heading over that way, and the M90 is normally clear too if your heading up to Perth or Dundee etc. most major roads should be clear up there too, the A9 can be hit or miss in this weather, but I'm guessing your not heading that far north if its only taking 8 hours! Bad weather as it happens, and morons on the roads will be your only delay.
DON'T try and push through without a break. Its recommended 45min rest for every 4 and a half hours driving, or just when you feel tired.

Yeah roads should be fine. Just follow signs for glasgow airport and then the Erskine bridge, and I don't know of it ever being closed due to weather either. Easy! ;-)

Hehe, its funny seeing people being shocked by 8 hr car trips Living in aus me and my family make an annual 16 hr road trip to where we used to live (Rural sheep and cattle station) I know the pain of long things like that, good luck and may emperor bless your buttcheeks with unnatural resilience.

Just cos it can be done doesn't mean it should. I don't know about aus, but in the UK nearly all main roads have high amounts of traffic to contend with. Also, if its found that you have a crash due to being tired you are liable.

I arrived an hour ago!!!!!!! Not bad going I spose. Weather was ok for the most part but as soon as I seen the sing for barrow the sky's opened. There's some real good roads up near Carlisle well from there up real the scenery was truly fantastic.
Well since I have no tv, I best unpack make my bed and go to the bar see if there's any old friends loafing around
I've fetched my gaurd with me so unless they have me doing silly skimmer stuff I'm gunna crack on painting.
