I look and immediately see Vulture.
Then again those have been on my mind lately.

Sticking with SMurfs, I'd say Stormtalon. Modelled well, it could easily be a Valk or Vendetta.
If I got my hands on one I'd more than likely use it for a Stormtalon. But I'd pull the wings forawrd, and shrink/shorten that oversized tail-fin.

I'd either go with Stormtalon or as a civilian aircraft or alt Imperial flyer. It is £30 plus whatever P&P though. Looks like a nice model though.

Gamesworkshop has just spoiled you with their low cost, high quality, model range.

Gamesworkshop has just spoiled you with their high cost, barely moderate quality, model range. Sorry for the derailing, but I had to correct this mistake. Carry on. ------------------------------------------------------------ Expensive? Including Postage, which is a flat rate international, its roughly £35. Looks? The Valk is a flying brick, same as all the Imperial Bricks GW and FW produce. Its shining merits, can only be found in its game-rules and Fluff. The Dragonfly looks cool, Comes in enough parts to promote conversion, but few enough that a novice vehicle modeller can assemble it without instruction, and seems to be made of Resin. I dare you to find a model kit from GW or FW that can rival it in those respects. And is Imperial.

How do you make an air transport that doesn't end up looking like a flying skip or a smarties tube?

How do you make an air transport that doesn't end up looking like a flying skip or a smarties tube? Lets take the official Stormraven for an example: www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1620063a_99120101088_Stormraven01_445x319.jpgThe pinacle example of a flying brick. Now look at a persons count-as model, made before the Stormraven hit the shelves, and before any pictures of the official model even started circulating. 2.bp.blogspot.com/_MYsIuqeU2Ic/S6QxHEyXc0I/AAAAAAAAAE4/TAaZx5hPq0A/s1600-h/stormraven9a.jpgWhich looks more designed for speed? Going by game rules, which looks better designed to carry a Dreadnought? It is less brick shaped, and also lends itself to the fluff by a damn larger margine than what GWs designers brick does. Back to the Dragonfly and the Valkyrie. The Valkyrie doesn't look like it was designed by anyone with a sense of structure. - With the engines on top, it will roll forward, and there is nothing to thrust the nose back up to keep it level. - Then consider how much more is in front of the wing thrusters, compared to behind. Even more weight to tilt the Valk forward and down. Taking those point, and then looking at the Dragonfly, it is still front heavy, but with the engines positioned as they are, and being able to move to adjust. it also has obvious front mounted turbines, most likely put in place to prevent the craft from rolling forward. Simply put, GW and FW don't even consider any element of realism in their flyers. If you now look at the Stormtalon, you'll notice near every engine is designed to put the thrust behind the craft. And somehow its expected to "Hover" in place? I've probably gone of topic, which is going to make me look a right nutcase/idiot/arse.

well as it's how many years in the future? we have space travel and the ability to live on other worlds, 8 foot tall super men, monsters that spawn from another dimension with gods that were made by our fears. Yes the Valkyries engine location is the thing thats unrealistic Personally I like the look of the valk *shrug* least it can go in to space

-_- I hate it when that counter-point is brought up...
Alright, on personal taste, I'm not a huge fan of the products GW puts out (for the Imperial armies). I personally think they could try harder. So my money is on the Dragonfly.

I'd also say look at the location of many seaplanes, they have their wings and engines often above the body of the plane, they don't seem to go nose up in the air. yes GWS could put more effort in to their kits, they could also lower the costs and stop ruining fluff. I don't see any of that happening. and the valk is Imperial Navy, so it needs to be able to go to space. I do agree that space marine fliers look like bricks. but then again space marines are built like brick sh** houses so kinda matches

Given that the Imperium can produce repulser units like those in landspeeders I tend to assume lift is generated from those. And while I don't dislike the custom Stormtalon it still has a skip attached to it.

- With the engines on top, it will roll forward, and there is nothing to thrust the nose back up to keep it level. Just a quick thing I ain't no aeronautics expert but with the small turbines in the wings then surely you could reverse one rotor whilst the other ison full blast to reverse the tilt and to make a more stable firing point?
