I've had a flick through my the IG codex looking at how an army is formed. It occurs to me that each squad (in my case 10 men with a Lft) Doesnt count on its own but as a platoon with a comand squad of an officer and 4 other guardsmen and more squads. This is a different layout to how other armies point systems are made up so im rather confused. I have a few questions about that subject and some random ones... 1. In an infantery platoon does the officer HAVE to have 4 other guards men with him or can he run it on his own? 2. Why do i need an officer to run each platoon if theres a Command HQ...surely that runs it all? 3. The command HQ needs a support squad...theres a fire support, anti tank blah blah but can i have my own custom support group with mixed heavy weaponry in it like a lascannon and 2 heavy bolters? Also can the Support squad just be oneheavy weapons team not 3? 4. Last question... I have a cadian army, do i have to completely follow the cadian doctrine for it to be cadian cus if i do i cant have ogryns. 5. Armoured Fist squad...the codex doesnt reakky explain that well what they are...I really really dont get what they are or do and how you get them Hope you can help me Regards Morin

1. Officer (Independent Character) and his 4 soldiers staff are a unit on it's own. If the staff is removed the officer bcomes an independent character again. As long he has his staff he has to stay in 2" to his squad 2. The HQ commands the Regiment/Companie. The JOs run their own platoons. (Would be a bit too complicated for ione officer to command hundreds of soldiers on his own, wouldn't it? 3. You don't need to take support squads, but you're allowed to take them. Every kind of squad can just have it's own kind of weaponary. For example the Fire Support Squad. They can just get Heavy Bolters or Autocannons, but they can mix these 2 kinds of weapons. But they're not allowed to take any other kind of heavy wapon as Lascannon and ML are just for the AT squad and Mortars just for the Mortarsquad. AND support squad is always consisting of 3 heavy weapon teams, as you're paying for all three 4. You can use any doctrine you want. But if you use your own combination of doctrines you're restricted to 5 doctrine points and Cadian have like 7 or 8 they can use 5. Armoured Fist is a troop choice. Technically they're a normal infantry squad in a Chimera troop carrier tank. For every platton in your army you can get 1 Armoured Fist Squad

Thanks a lot knight ) Theres some more qs based on those answers now 1. The junior officer has to have 4 guards in a squad with him to run the platoon right? 2. Is an armoured fist squad JUST a squad thats inside a chimera or do they get other improvments as well? 3. If i make my own doctrine can i not call my troops "cadian" any more?

knight regarding armoured fist squadrons its my understanding that there is no limit on the number of chimera (points allowing) you can take though it is only one armoured fist per platoon. and morin remner the guard are so vast that you can call and equip ajnd doctarine your regiment within the confines of the guideline rules whatever you want. so you could call them cadian you simply call the regiment the 3453 cadian regt. or something and say that there co has had them tgrained in the doctarines you want. i think only the most zealous purist could cause a argument and even then by the very nature of IG they wouldn't have a case.

1. A JO is "delivered" with his staff of 4 soldiers. They're already included in his costs. 2. The Armoured Fist is a normal Guard Infantry squad and therefore profits from all doctrines that can be applied to Guard Infantry. But Some Doctrines aren't availible for troops in Chimeras, Light Infantry for example, but every doctrine states if it can be used with squads in Chimeras 3. You can still call it Cadian. It just doesn't follow the Cadian doctrines anymore. It follows your (up to) 5 doctrines you have chosen. @sammy: 1 Armoured Fist per Platoon, that's right. If you have 1 Platoon, you can get 1 Armoured Fist. If you have 2 Platoons, 2 Armoured Fists and if you take 3 Platoons, you can take a maximum of 3 Armoured Fists, because the Armoured Fist is a Troop choice on it's own and needs one Troop slot on the AOC. So 3 is the maximu m for Armoured Fists, if you want more take the Mechanized doctrine. Evry squad will have to get a Chimera regardless it may get one or not. With Mechanized every Command Squad, normal Squad, Veterans, SW-Squad or HW-Squad has to be mounted in a Chimera. That makes such armies pretty expensive point and money wise, but you get a lot of tanks and a lot of shots for that

I was looking at the codex the other day and wondering this: You can take 1 AF squad per regular infantry platoon( or something like that) but it also says you can take 1 unit of conscripts per platoon also( or something like that) Am i reading this wrong or can you take a regular platoon, an AF squad AND a conscript platoon ?I'm probably reading it wrong like i do some times but it would be very cool if you could.

No you are not reading it wrongly ;D but you have to take the conscript platoon doctrine and you have to spend alot more cash
