Yep COD is a great doctrine to take and it is free.
It doesn't really specify it in the rules, but you can (IMO) use it on the charge as well, as long as u get all ur guys in base to base. Then u just need to be careful on how u remove casualties.
Similarly to this, you want to be cunning on how u use your medics. Keep them at the back so that they can't get in to base to base, but are with in 2" of some one who is. If they can get in base to base, then they have to, so you will need a bit of practice to get it right. Moving all the other models in the squad 1st helps with this. Get them in the way, then charge the medic in last.
This is perhaps being a bit creative with the rules, but is legit (the medi pac rules states it won't work on a CC weapon that ignores armour saves, so it must work on those that don't).
If you do this right, your veteran medic, hopefully armed with a cc weapon and pistol is assaulting with 4 attacks, and u can ignore the first failed save .
1 Last point on free docs, but not really related to CC. Drop troops is free. Dropping a platoon doesn't always help that much, but dropping in a CS with a medic and 3 plasma guns, or even 4 nade launchers can be v effective for taking on walkers, jet bikes or other light vehicles. drop troops gives u more options when setting up, u can choose to keep people back to reinforce if needed, or set them up as normal. The choice is v useful. also keeping ur SO off the table for a few turns, u can still use his command rule if u are taking vox's.
