Pretty much what it says on the label! I'm going to try and start up an Only War game, and I'm looking for recruits. But first, some info!
General Information
- First and foremost, I can provide all necessary gaming resources to the players. Experience with OW, DH, RT, or the other Fantasy Flight 40k RPGs is a plus, but not necessary if you're willing to do a bit of homework. I'm also willing to do training sessions with people new to all this if they want.
- I'm looking for four to five players, but can roll with three as well. You will most likely make up a fire team (or vehicle crew).
- The game will be once a week, at 8pm Eastern Standard, and will run to 11:00 or so, but that may vary depending on what needs to get done during the session. The day is flexible depending on what people can do, but I am not free Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Remember, if it's super late for you or super early, or you have work running close to the start of the game and aren't confident you can make it, better to be cautious and forgo taking part.
- We'll be playing over AIM, so make sure you have that, or a program like Trillian that is compatible with it. AIM has been silly about allowing people into group chats recently, so Trillian might be your best bet. If you have any questions about this, PM me.
- You're going to be expected to show up unless you have a very valid reason for skipping (family emergency, no internet, your arms exploded, etc). You'll also be expected to take part in the game beyond shooting things. That means squad banter and the like. Even if your character is a mute, I will expect narration of expressive charades.
- Mary Sue players, power gamers, and those who plot and scheme against their party probably won't like my GM style, as I have a tendency to have these types of PCs get tackled by a random luchador if they irritate me enough. Not saying your play style is wrong, just saying you probably won't fit in well for this game.
Campaign Information
- The campaign itself is WiP, and will be shaped by player input beforehand (and player actions during), but I can tell you that it'll be fighting Chaos, and will be broken down into three chapters. The first will involve suppressing Chaos infiltrators behind Imperial lines, the second will be general attack and defense missions on another part of this world, and the third will be total war! Think of it as Necromunda > 40k > Apocalypse.
- As mentioned above, the players are going to have a chance to give me input on several parts of the campaign before we start. The sector and specific world will be based on player input, and your regiment will be designed by the group (more on that in just a second). Players are welcome to abstain from giving their input, but it's strongly encouraged to help tailor the campaign more to your tastes.
- You'll all be from the same regiment, and you're all going to have to make it together. There will be a couple restrictions on what you can choose, but I'm also willing to bend and expand the regiment generator in the rulebook to suit what the group wants. The regiment will either be freshly recruited, though, or an amalgamation unit trying to absorb a large number of new recruits, the party among them. Your characters won't have much combat experience aside from what their civilian lives gave them, and you won't have too much starting XP.
- The game itself will be broken down into assignments given to your squad. At the start of each chapter, I'll send you a briefing PM on the theater of operations, and after you complete one mission, I'll send you a briefing PM with info for the next, which will outline objectives, expected enemy, and all the other good stuff a normal briefing would include, as well as outlining chances for additional XP. If you want to have your character do stuff during down time in between missions, I can set up a side session for that. Also, since I strongly encourage RPing in my games, I'll give out bonus XP for in-depth character backgrounds and the like.
- One note to those who have played in my games before; This one will be considerably more combat centric than the past ones, with your combat assignments taking up the vast majority of game time. No more goofing about on pleasure worlds!
- Finally, I have last say on what is and isn't plausible, what can and cannot be hand waved, and all of the other usual GM powers. Excessive b*tching will result in XP deductions and pigs falling on the head of your character.
So! With all of that in mind, if you are interested, shoot me a PM with the days you are free! It will be sort of first come first serve, so if you're unsure, express interest now to save a spot! Also, if you are not 100% confident you can make whatever game time we settle on, please don't try to convince yourself you can do it! Life is full of surprises that can get in the way, and if it turns out you can't do it regularly, you don't want to deny a slot to someone who can! Lastly, I obviously have final say over who and who does not play, but if you don't end up being part of the group, it's not because I don't like you. It's because, for whatever reason, someone else got the slot.
