Not sure if I've got the right name, you know the silver anti tank gun.
How do you get it? do you have to buy separate blister packs ? Do you have to make one yourself? Are tehy good?
I'm thinking about making an anti vechial team, wondering if these might be useful for a kinda rapid attack team. (armoured fist style)

well meltaguns come in the command squad box set and in blister packs, those are the only two ways to get them.

Dont try to model a Meltagun with Greenstuff, Not unless you've had about 20 Years Experience with the stuff, your best bet is just to buy some.

yeah, it works out to be the same price for a blister pack of melta/ plasmagunners as it is for some greenstuff.

I've got a guy with a melta of ebay now. (3 catachan snipers,1 flamer guy, 1 melta guy,2 with demolitions packs, and 6 plastic catachans for £3.50)
So its alright there.

The meltagun would be almost perfect for anti tank missions. I say almost perfect because you have to get up close and personal with the tank to use the weapon, which I always find difficult. Nothing says kill me first than carrying a meltagun.

For me if you are going to use a rapid responce melta team like that i would use it in drop troops in a special weapons squad. It is abit suicidal( come on you apes, you wanna live forever ? )but it does work.
Using them in a AF squad is much more suicidal and way more expencive i think. You have to pay for the full squad, and the tank and hope that you get to your oponents tank before it finishes off your troops.Hope that helps some.

If you can, go for a 6 man squad of hardened veterans with meltaguns instead of the 6 man special weapons squad. The vets are not that much more cost wise (mine costs 85pts) but you get the increased weapon skill and a sergeant with access to the Imperium Armour. If that wasn`t enough they can deepstrike and infiltrate for free! Take the veterans doctrine and do that 3 times and your army packs some punch!

sorry Billy, vets can't deep strike, they can only infiltrate( only as if that wasn't bad a** enough)but here is a good thought, Storm troopers CAN deep strike. It's actually a tried and true method of making a rapid responce team.a melta/plasma gun and another special weapon, vet sgt with a power sword ,pay the extra to make them deep strike and let them fly.

Damn, my bad, they can`t deepstrike. But they are still pretty good for their points. I guess you can do the same with storm troopers and pay a bit extra though, plus you get the +1 save bonus.

hey guys, if you want deep striking vets, you have to choose drop troops and so they can do it!!! It works pretty well but in most cases they will destroy the target and then be wiped out.... it's fun anyway, 3 special weapons with BSx is cool!!!

Ok I now have a melta over load due to ebay addiction. Are special wepons squads worth it for meltas? I have 3 cadians with meltas, 1 catachan , and 1 converted storm trooper.
Should I take the vetrens doctrine and just have a roving anti tank squad? At present my vetrens consist of 8 or so blokes with shotguns and a flamer (their catachans, I kinda want to keep the catachans in catachan squads and cadiens in cadiens squads)
I've got about 4 catachans I can make from the spares from the plastic catachans set.

i only use special weapons squads in my drop troops army where i have a demo charge, a flamer and a melta. As for my thinking it makes it well rounded for just about anything when it drops.I'm abit suicidal when i drop though and will drop very close to my oponent.Thats about the only way it will work.

everyone has it pretty well summed up though drop troops seem like the way to go (I liked the flamer, melta, demo charge arrangement for versatility col. hengiest, though I'd also consider 2 special weapon drop squads, 1 with 2 flamers and a demo charge, and 1 with 2 meltas and a demo charge).
also stormtrooper/kasrkin squads (though I realize you have been buying non-stormtrooper/kasrkin models so that's maybe more of a side thought at the moment for ya.
