So the other day I was looking over my codex again, looking for ideas that I could use to customize my Jangovingian CCXXVIIth with when I stumbled across the Enginseer.
They use servitors, but then I figured that I could just as well use other models to represent them. I remembered one of Caiaphas Cain's stories, where the young Techpriest Felicia recruits 2 people from the civilians to work with her. They were later called laymen. So what I was thinking..
I was thinking that the mind lock might just as well be the civilians freaking out in the heat of battle, so the rules have that covered. So I guess the real question is, are there any models that do not need much conversion work to function as laymen of Mars?

Servitors?
Really it's either that or just some standard Guardsmen.
A head swap on a servitor model makes them look significantly less lobotomised, you'd need to be confident with GS to hide the line where you removed the head. That way they look suitably augmented (a competent adept of the machine god would have the skills, the augment themselves after all) without being all zombie styled.

I use a slightly modified group of Tech-Priests in my fluff, they help teach some of the more adept members of my force how to maintain their vehicles and equipment, I then also see that the accolyets aren't going to have the implants and such to be as skilled as a tech-priest or enginseer.

Hmm, that looks like what I'd be getting at, macknight.
But I just had an idea. Doesn't Dark Vengeance have some cultists that look like they might be cogboys?

Or thirdparty civilians? Tons of smaller modellers do them

Yes, I used the main part of the CAT for some other on versions, these bits were a byproduct! However, I was just trying to show that with a little impel imagination, you can create very acceptable enginseers.

Very cool indeed. And interesting, too. But I think I'm gonna keep those tools for the squad that is the combat engineering team. Nonetheless, thanks for sharing!

Fantastic modelling once again.
Where did you grab the tools from may I ask?
