I'm currently painting a DA dred, and I am having a bit of trouble with the weapon. Namely what colour to paint it.
It's the standard multimelta with the armour part standard dark angels green. So it's the tanks, cables, and mussel I'm having the issue with.
Also if anyone has any advice on painting metal (working parts on legs and arms etc) that would be very helpful!
I'm using GW paints.
Thank you in advance!

Metal is the same as any other paint really. I use (old names here) boltgun metal over chaos black undercoat. Then I highlight along the shaft if its a dreadnaughts leg or whatever using chain mail. Then an extreme highlight if mithril silver. I'm far from an expert but it gets the job done. Inks/washes also come into their own with metallics. A black ink or age ax earth shade wash can turn even just a standard boltgun metal coat into a nice worn piece if old metal.
For the muzzle of the Multi melta, go with the same process but make the ends look a bit burnt by dry brushing very lightly some black or rust (or both if you're feeling up to it, black over rust) over the very ends of the two cylinders, fading away into the metallic parts.

I find you can make the barrels of meltas look nicely scorched by progressively washing them with Devlan Mud several times, increasing the density towards the tip, and then doing a Badab Black wash around the very end.

Devlax Earthmud?
Argan Mudshade?
I actually do have a pot of the re-named shade which I have yet to open. Are we supposed to cut the little doo-dad off of the hinge area to open the new pots?

Agrax Earthshade is pretty good too. Just have to use it differently, or as others have said "don't drown it, wash it"

Thingummy earthshade is pretty much like watered down Devlan. The army painter strong tone in a dropper bottle is pretty much identical to Devlan - hope that helps!
