What process did you go through for the skin on the bareheaded guy? He looks like he's almost made of bronze in places.
For paler skin I tend to start off with Elf Flesh, then use a sepia wash, then build up a 50/50 mix of elf flesh and bleached bone over it on the major areas (cheeks, forehead, nose, chin) then another light wash of sepia/flesh wash followed by final highlights of bleached bone.
The result is pretty good. I'll post a pic of my SM captain so you can see, but the picture in my avatar (although the lighting is shocking) is ok too.

Did you apply the wash right away, or did you wait for the paint to dry?

waited for it to dry, tbh my camera seems to make all my models look like filth. In real they look much more homogenous. Mind you cameras never lie so ima have to apply extra detail and care into painting the next batch

waited for it to dry, tbh my camera seems to make all my models look like filth. In real they look much more homogenous. Mind you cameras never lie so ima have to apply extra detail and care into painting the next batch I think it looks messy as there are 'tide marks' from the flat areas that have the wash on. Washes are meant to sink into details, so they'll leave marks like that when they dry on flat bits. If you want darker tones on those areas, try mixing in a tiny bit of dark grey or black to your current colours. If not, paint over the flat bits and they'll look a lot more 'finished'. A few edge highlights and they'll look a million quid! Also, paler skin tones; what colours are you using? Again, less wash and more highlights will go a long way. It could be that you're starting with colours that are too dark too. I'm not great with the new GW range (I'm still using my old ones up!), I did my skin with 50/50 Tallarn flesh and Elf flesh as a base, Elf flesh as a mid and elf flesh and a bit of white as a highlight. I did use washes when they came out, although I watered them down quite a bit; it's easy to put more on than to take it off! Have a go with highlighting and things, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. The worst thing that can happen is that you have to prime your models and start again, although you're much more likely to find a better way of doing things if you experiment a bit. I love the crazy amount of shell casings on your heavy bolter guy too, where'd you get them?

Lool thanks effect, I don't like the new GW paint range tbh, they've got this new three tier system for each colour.
I got the shell casings from the Ork infantry box set i believe... or one of their sprues.
Thanks for the tips I'll use them tomorrow or tonight when I pluck up the courage to face and address what seems to be heading towards a failed project...

Hey don't worry Ivory! It's not a failure at all.
I know you're going to make this into something amazing, I really love the premise and can't wait for more.

Personally it looks more like your a bit... Generous with the amount of wash you put on. My first few were drowned in wash and got a similar look.

Hold on a sec! Isn't it also the 501st Number?
And the same number as 500 bananas plus one banana?
And also the same as 250 Japanese Men plus 251 Japanese men?
CONSPIRACY!!!!!
