Well its been a very long while since I was on the forum. I took a long hiatus from 40K but now I am returning. I have been playing and painting historical armies for the last few years (romans, Celts, British 8th Army, and English Civil War).
I have a good start on my new adventure into the world of IG. All my old minis I stripped down and are in a state of newly painted or WIP. I am painting this army simply for fluff reasons since very few people seem to play 40K in my location anymore. So without further ado he is my intended army list:
HQ
INQ (using Iron Hand Straken rules) he will also have all the regimental advisors to include the two body guards. (10 minis)
Company Command SQD with regimental standard (5 minis)
Priests (5 minis)
Elites
3 stormtrooper selections (these are the troops the INQ brings to the table) 30 minis.
Troops
PLT command with three sqds INF, 1 heavy weapons (Lascannons), 1 special troops (Snipers)
PLT command with three sqds INF (all mounted in Chimeras) 1 heavy (bolters), 1 special (demo)
2 Sqds Veterans (with Chimeras)
1 sqd Penal legion
Fast attack
3 salamanders
3 armored Sentinels
10 Rough riders
Heavy support
2 earthshaker platforms
6 Leman russ tanks various configurations
Super heavy
1 Baneblade
3 Maldacor tanks
I would estimate that I have 80% of this army already in my possession.
Story theme:
The Essex sector was declared exturminatus by the ordo Xenos during the Horus heresy. The truth was something completely different. An unknown member of the infant order had come to the concussion that it would be best to have a source of loyal troops unknown to the imperium as a whole. The logic being that an army raised within the doctrine of the order would be better prepared for the alien onslaught then mere imperial soldiers. Unfortunately this early inquisitor died before making his dream a reality. Before his death though, he replaced the complete governmental system of the sector with members of his inner circle. Through these appointed members the sector grew into a bastion of the Ordo Xenos. For thousands of years this sector stayed at a state of readiness constantly forming regiments and preparing for the inquisitions call to arms. The sector had no means of communication with the order since all non-sanctioned psykers were executed upon discovery. The only psykers to survive were prepared for combat as well as the hunting of their own kind. Without psykers to guide their ships in the warp or to communicate across the great expanse of space the sector slowly became isolated.
Sometime in the late parts of M38 the sector was rediscovered by a rogue trader. By the emperors guidance the rogue trader was actually an inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus. What she found was an entire civilization flourishing under the imperial truth. Fortunately for the sector she was a well-educated woman, who had a deep passion for understanding the emperor’s true vision. She stayed and studied the Essex system for twenty years before casting judgment upon them. While she understood the dangers of having an entire system dedicated to a single ordo she also understood the advantage. In the end she granted immunity to the entire system and declared the system under inquisition control. Sho took her findings back to the Ordo Hydra which she was a member of. Before the ordo Hydra could act on this new found source of fresh “meat” inquisitor jaq Draco put an end to their schemes. Knowledge of the sector would have died with his being declared renegade if it wasn’t for a scholar in the late part of the M39 rediscovering the diary of the mysterious female inquisitor who’s notes had ended up within the vaults of the inquisition under the closely guarded “hydra” files. This scholar would later become an inquisitor for the ordo xenos. Upon elevation to the level of Inquisitor his first task he assigned himself was the rediscovery of the lost essex system. He found the system just as it had been described in the diary at the turn of M41. With the rediscovery he took the knowledge of the system back to his order. The order as a whole declared the system under their protection and began to recruit from within its ranks. The essex system became a closely guarded secret within the order and few know about it. To this day whenever a large army is needed by the Ordo Xenos they call upon the regiments of Essex to rally around their banner. Since the system is isolated and has no means of interstellar space travel or communication they are completely at the mercy of the ordo. The system does have many things going in its favor, one being a forge world as well as multiple moons with different types of xenos for practice.
