If i judged my army on 1 - 10 i would probably say my army at full potential (full potential meaning with all my heavy weapons becasuse i use lowsy ork guns since there so big as heavy weapons) would be around 8, 9 or 10 see but without those heavy weapons my army would be so bad and so low points. Please tell me HOW DO YOU GET UR HEAVY WEAPONS. i think i have probably thought of every technique possible for getting heavy weapons but coudnt get anything. scratch building / molding is too hard because i dont have the materials. buying is outta the question because it costs too much. the people i play with are very leanient so i dont need anything to good but i still need it to look alike. the heavy weapons i would need are heavy bolters, mortars and lascannons but i cant find a way so if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated -Peeve The Prodigy

1) "!!!!!!!!!" was totally unneccesary, and caps lock is not, in fact, "cruise control for cool". 2) Punctuation and spelling are appreciated. The English language is known to get quite upset with people who maul it so feircely, and other forum-dwellers are less likely to respond to a post that's hard to read. 3) We have a modeling and conversions forum
That said... Heavy Weapons Platoons aren't as cost-ineffective as most players initially assume. By purchasing a Heavy Weapon Team or Squad box, you get a vast array of bits, not all of which are used for each weapon. With the addition of some additional guardsmen to act as ammo bearers, each Heavy Weapon Team model kit can, in fact, produce 3 different weapons; a mortar, a missile launcher (just carry it like a bazooka) and one direct-fire weapon of choice. Depending on your most common opponents, the Frag Missile may be a functional substitute for Heavy Bolters, trading Strength for 12" of additional range, the ability to hit up to 7 close-packed targets, and the optional anti-tank punch. Unless you're frequently facing Tau infantry or Stormtrooper-heavy guard, the Missile Launcher's probably an equally effective weapon.

With a bit of converting you can use all the weapons in a HW box. It's not that hard to make a tripod.

ya but im looking for a very cheap way because i need abbout 27 heavy weapons and i dont need 1 of each like in the box set. i also need more heavy bolters then i do lascannons or the others.heavy bolters would be the best choice because with a missle launcher u get to roll 1 dice to hit and with a heavy bolter u get many shots and its a better chance of hitting. - Peeve The Prodigy

I got all my HW's and bits off a mate who was changing armies and decided he wanted to get rid of some stuff....ended up with a whole box full of bits and pieces for the IG and kroot (for some strange reason). So if you have any mates that are willing to give you some or sell you some at "mates rates", try that.....or become the worlds best green stuff modeller.

I just have a ton of extra bits and bobs from other armies that I have spent countless dollars on.. aside from what seems to be lack of motivation to convert anything and lack of motivation or will to actually buy the parts I think you are SOL.. ask your parents what it means and get grounded for a month .. That aside.. buying the HW team box is not a bad idea.. it comes with the basics that you need.. and then you can just go from there.. also if you have any IG tanks then the spare sponsons can be made into HW teams.. I am referring to the Heavy Bolter sponsons that people like me never use since they just run their tanks naked up the field so I can have more tanks Also another suggestion is just a rectangle, with a small cylinder at the end and side for an ammo clip and voila.. instant Heavy Bolter.. want another lascannon? Make the rectangle shorter, remove the ammo clip, make the barrel longer.. can be made from plasticard ( pretty cheap unless you live in Turkey ) or anything else that can be hard enough to survive the glue process.. Try thinking outside the box and know that this hobby is beyond the point of just throwing cash away.. it really does require money and time and the odd weird purchase to get what you want out of it.. when everything else fails.. try trading bits and pieces with fellow players.. Orks in particular.. their standard guns could be converted easily into Heavy Bolters and lascannons depending on how you do it.. Hope this helps Gris

Hmmm..........Best suggestion..............either save, become a good greenstuffer, or trade, and or PM Gris for instruction on how to convert.
Good Luck,

Ebay is your friend. U can usually pick up bits and bobs, fully constructed HW teams, box sets both complete and part used. So u should have no problem getting cheaper alternatives to just using the boxed sets.
Also look out for other races that might have usuable pieces, the space marine scouts heavy bolter is easy to add to a guardsman, so look in to trading also, at games, etc.....
Personnally I think you will need at least 1 HW box set. From 2 boxes, I made up 3 ACs, 3 LCs, 3 HBs (with guys lying down as I'd runo out of tripods, I used the others to add to a Leman russ and a bane blade), 6 mortars and 3 Missile Luanchers (still have 3 spare, so can make more if I want them) and an exterminator turret for a Leman Russ. You don't have to make things exactly as u see them on the boxes. So even using up pieces on other projects like tanks, with 2 HW box sets I have 18 HWs.
Get 1 box and see what you can do.
As you play with leanient players, subing in ACs for LCs or vice versa wont be a problem, and you HWs will still all look awesome.
I can understand (and do myself) why people sub things some times, to see if they like them/work how they think they will, before buying and painting the models. But once your army is taking shape, I keep this to a minimum.

hmm......I agree. raid your friends bits box too! I made the mistake of bringing my bitzbox to the club one day.. almost lost half of my items due to people wanting to convert this and that from what was in it... though I cant blame them when you think I have over 12 yrs worth of spare bitz and bobs in it.. and ranging over from fantasy to 40k and several races inbetween. Trades are good though at times.. traded enough bits that a guy ended up just buying me my first basilisk for them So yeah.. more options to you I guess.. Gris

There is no easy way around this issue. Either you save up, make the guns yourself or raid everyone you know's bitz box.
