Hi! I am new to WH: 40K so please tell me if this is a viable option. I am thinking of having my first army consist of mostly heavy weapons, lemmys (leman russes) artillery, and dug in postitions (painted and modeled terrainn). Is this a good idea Also, on another note, How much would all this stuff cost (paint, codex+rulebook, miniatures, etc...) Thanks! No Flames, Insults, or off topic remarks please- Dante Orichalco

I play the turtle hehe. Ok so If you wanna do that heres a good idea,Lots of infantry in cover, tanks and artillery weapons, and snipers and HvyBolters. Now The cost depends on what you buy I have spent about.............400 Dollars in mine and its very small. I have 1 Lemmy 1 Basilisk(artillery ) and 2-6 squads. So my opinion is to buy the book and then get squads first. Now as far as tactics go you sit and shoot and sit and shoot and wait for your 2 turns of lasgun shots until you die or win. Only fun if you like watching ppl get mad at you,and like winning and losing. Its a very powerful army against everything but Tau so choose wisely. Good Luck! Cadian

it's a little more complex than 'sit and shoot till you die or win' but with a fully static SAFH (shooty army from hell) you're basically looking at one strategy (sit and shoot from max distance) with a few sub-strategies (split firebases or a combined firebase). if you're going against an army with massive mobility (like mechanized eldar or tau) you may want to use a combined firebase and put all your eggs in one basket. if they kill that firebase they win. vs. slower armies you may want to split your firebases into distant flank positions with one firebase per extreme flank. the idea is to put as much space in between your two positions as possible. your goal is to kill all the transports as the enemy comes to the first firebase then kill all the troops as they're forced to foot march all the way across the LONG board edge to your second firebase. these are some methods by which the shooty army wins.
it's important to note though, that shooty defensive armies have a hard time in tournament or scenario oriented settings due to lack of mobility. vehicles can work, but having some infantry to back up a mechanized push is good - shooty armies tend to have a disporportionate amount of big guns for maxed long range firepower effect.

Can someone email me the point counts and unit choices for the following: HQ (command squad right?), 1st platoon (heavy weapons, morters, at guns etc), 2nd platoon (same, except a few snipers), 3rd and 4th platoons guardsmen with carpace armor (its a good thing right), 5th platoon lemmys, bassies, and other guns like demolishers if possible.
On the terrain front how does this sound: On one half of the field razorwire and lots of walls with slits for guns and cannons. On the other half it has hils at the back edges+ some shield/small semicircle bunkers w/firing slits.
Is that balanced?

I have to be the official bad guy and politely request that you don't ask people to violate GW IP rights (intellectual property rights) - this is done with the forums longevity in mind as GW can shut us down and then there'd be no more IGMB if we have people openly circumventing GWs rights to its printed property. GW wants people to buy their books, and if they find people using a work around they'll stop that work around from existing as it's within their rights - thusly, its a good thing to respect those property rights so we can enjoy the continuation of the forum under the ever watchful eye of our GW big brother. thanks for understanding dante TB

I'm just gonna say 'no comment, and don't do anything I wouldn't do (... um.. yeah...)' and I'm going to leave this thread alone and walk away. I will, however, bring down my iron fist of moddissary crusheyness on any overt occurances of a violation of GWs IP rights as that is what I'm charged to do. what I don't know about however, is beyond what I have the ability to moderate ofcourse.
