Hi;
Looking to build a 1850-2000 pt army. Useing all infantry no tanks or arty. Want a theme jungle fighter army. To start I know I need to the codex, but where to go from there? Is buying the battlforce worth it, even tho I not going to use the sentealis that come with it?
As for HWT planning to use as many mortars as I can. And either 1 team of two LC and 1 ML or two ML and 1 LC. Got to see how it adds up.
SWT either Flamers and demo chargers or GL and demo charges.
Want to use the mus platoon approach. Figure 1 plt of 30 mixed together and Flamers and GL as my main assault element.
My support element is another plt with 2 sqs and each sq has heavy weapon either a auto cannon or heavy bolter. And most likey a GL. There role is fire support.
My last plt is security element for HWT and it's 2 squads with heavy weapon and Flamers. There job is stop DS unit from hitting my heavy weapon teams.
For HQ really want to add straken for theme and to max out 30 strong plt. I thinking for him, bodyguards and medic and max out GL.
If I take a second HQ any suggestions?
For elites maxing out ratlings.
Agis gun line is going to be added to deter flyers. Plus I am scratch building one. I was thinking of manning it with harker and GL vets and either a ML or auto cannon. And normal vet manning the gun. BS 4 sounds better than BS3.
What is deal with Voxs worth it?
Overall building a defensive build

No one uses the sentinels (unless they love sentinels) the battleforce is still worth it, though if you can acquire your guys at a discount or in a cheaper bundle second hand then that's the way to go.
Plenty of people don't like vox but I know a couple of people swear by them. Personally I'll take them to bolster improtant stuff or if I know I'll have the spare points I'll just go whole hog and get them all. Since you are saving on tanks and relying on your infantry to do its job I think vox will be good for you.
Mortars are cool but you probably want a few lascannons, since that'll be your main (heavy) anti-tank weapon (you could stick one in the second h.q for a Bs4 one with a small unit. You also probably want some autocannons to do the same thing against light tanks. I think that the prevailing opinion is that autocannons trump heavy bolters.

It might be worth you taking a cata version of Al'Rahem, just so you can outflank a huge platoon, including some heavy weapon teams. As for HWT planning to use as many mortars as I can. And either 1 team of two LC and 1 ML or two ML and 1 LC. Got to see how it adds up. Dunno how I feel about mixing heavy weapons.. You should have points for both type of squad. HWTs are great but very, very fragile and if you're only using infantry you might need a few m/l teams in your normal platoon squads too. Just in case the proverbial hits the fan and all your anti-tank teams die and your opponent has armour.

Do you remember that time your autocannon heavy weapon squad half shot up my chimera in the first turn and then my autocannon heavy weapon squad instant deathed all of your autocannon squad in my first turn? Ah, good times.

I'm fond of the all infantry approach.
I like 2 command squads with grenade launchers
Add a platoon of 30 with flamers for my forward objective unit (and maybe a few commissars too)
Add a second platoon of 50 with heavy weapons and then give the order to twin-link 5 heavy weapons! he he he.. stick a commissar in here just to be sure.
support all this with at least 5 mortar squads and you get an idea of what my default list looks like.
Not sure what the cheapest way to do this is... the heavy weapon squad box allows you enough heavy weapons to build several different guns if used wisely. I think I ended up getting about 5 of the HWS, 5 of the CCS (for all the various guns etc) and maybe 10 infantry boxes to build my army ... makes me cry to think how much that cost then, let alone in current pricing climate.

Ah, good times. That list has worked OK vs your orks, rather than your guard, but would struggle vs tread's orks... Not enough anti-tank to counter his battle wagon assault.

I feel you on price, I remember the days when you got 20 jungle fighters in a box not 10.
I like your aproch of build a bigger group all with heavy weapons. I just felt that 50man strong plt would make for target number 1. And muitlable smaller plts would force my opt to spread out his fire power.
Mortars are going to be a staple of my list.
By chance does anyone know the dimensions of bastion? Building one to fit my army and unsure of the correct heigh.
