I have recently read a lot about the Krieg Death Korps (yes, I know it's corps) but I am wondering, even though they sound like defensive and siege troops (which is my style), it is another codex to buy, and more planning to do. I ask experienced players, are they worth it? ? Yes I know I've been making a lot of threads, but please don't flame me, after all, I am a noob.

I got schooled by a DK style siege army when I fought against them with my guard. the thing is, with guard vs. guard, the commander who has to move dies and loses. the commander who sits and shoots as the enemy walks into his guns wins. simple as that. with a siege army, you're deploying as much as you can on the table edge - you commit to the fact that if a unit breaks it falls off the board edge. you want as much space as possible in between you and the enemy. pack mass indirect fire weapons, thudd guns are amazing weapons, take alot of them (they were my downfall when I went against the siege army - each thudd gun would completely kill a full heavy weapon squad every single volley).
you don't need stuff like iron discipline, you want stuff that will keep your leadership solid - chem inhalers or die hards are great options (again, if you fail a leadership check with a unit, you gotta accept that unit is gone). this said, always have a company standard centrally located to blanket as much as you can with the rerollable LD saves. use cheap vehicles to block LOS to your artillery so it can keep thumping rounds downrange. sniper rifles are a good option for their range and ability to pin. pinning is a huge benefit, long range weapons are a huge benefit. your army (as a siege army) will excell in one thing: long range volume of fire. you have to win with this to win with a siege army.
siege armies do great against shooty armies but can really suffer vs. quick moving (mechanized or otherwise) armies - beware the fearless tyranids that lead off with fleeting genestealers that get a scout move or gargoyles. for this reason you'd do well to call on some ogryn (sweet new models coming down the pipes for us - should be released in November(?)) or rough riders (more of a one shot wonder, but sometimes that's what you need).
the DK models themselves are ungodly expensive and I have yet to see a DK army from anyone in the entire metropolatin area in which I live (that's alot of 40k players). I've seen everything from air cav valkyrie heavy armies with corvus lighters and vultures/thunderbolts for support to elysian drop armies (using actual elysians) with, again, vulture gunship support, but no DK army.
it's definately an achievement to do, and it'd be the mark of a masterful army - one that spared no expense in its presentation. I recommend having the painting skill to back up the figs (not saying you have to be a pro, just that you do the investment in resin justice in the quality of mini that hits the tabletop) to really do this concept proud.

Their rules and doctorines are in the back of the IG codex. all the extras and stuff from ForgeWorld are in IA:5 (you cant play most of them at a GW hobby store, anyway).
To quote Turtleboy; "...expensive..."
If you REALLY want to use them, take a peek at the Combat Patrol rules in your 4th ed. rulebook and make a Krieg list based around a small, 400pt patrol group and go from there.

;D Woo-hoo! another DK fan! I use Death korps and have been collecting them for almost a year. I was planning a siege army but decided against it because I love tanks. I have a heavily mechanised DK grenadier army. I am planning on adding as many Death riders as possible soon because I love the idea of a cavalry charge. The models are great. They look great, they're easy to convert and have cool colour schemes. Crap, thinking of them makes me want to order more of 'em! I don't use the Imperial Armour book because frankly I think the book is over-priced, I just use the IG codex. I can not recommend them highly enough. Good luck with your decison ;D

I recently got the guts of my 2500pt DK army in the mail *swoon* sexiest IG ever. I'm totally insane and have the cash, so I'm pretty heavy on infantry... also have 11 mortar teams all told, and 3 bassies xD The joy of shelling the living daylights out of people from a safe distance CANNOT be understated. Cheesy, maybe. But no less so then freakin smurfs.
Anyway, the mini's are absolutely gorgeous. I agree with mabus though. I would stick to standard guard codex + doctrines.. As much as i LOVED the idea of thudd guns(i loved em in 2nd ed), and as beautiful as the models are, if its not official GW stuff rules-wise I'm very wary of it.
EDIT: oh and one of the best things about the FW DK? they ALL keep their damn masks on! yay! No freakin officers with a desire to get shot in the face!

*worships you*
You are a god amongst men, you crazy fool!
Post pictures of your army still in the FW boxes and all the parts and stuff. That's gotta be like fifty pounds of resin.

i have a friend that is in the process of buying DK troops. He has 2 squads of grenadiers, the command unit and an exterminater. He said he has had aot of problems with the resin breaking, like legs and arms breaking off.I haven't seen many of them to say yes or no on that but just remember that resin isn't as strong as plastic.
besides that, the DK are a great looking army and fluff wise you get a great story line.
