Obviously Vendettas are great Anti-Aircraft vehicles, being able to Skyfire (because they themselves are flyers) and having 3 Twin Linked Lascannons.
But what other things do we have? The Hydra Flakk Battery appears to be Anti-Air.... but is it? It doesn't have skyfire >.<
What tools do we have for reliable ground to air fire? I know the new fortifications have skyfire weapons, but I'm looking exclusively through the IG book and forgeworld supplements.

The FAQ gave the Hydra Autocannon Skyfire, and there's always a fortification with a quad-gun or Icarus Lascannon.
Of course, once they hurry up and give us access to flakk missiles, then we will have fearsome AA.
On a related note, The Punisher has potential as a Flying Monstrous Creature Swatter. Hit 'em with enough shots to force a grounding test, then nail 'em with Battle Cannons.

If you can use Forge World, then we've got the best Anti-Air in the Game with Sabre Platforms. Those things are just insanely good. I think IA1: 2nd Ed has the newest Rules for them, but it might be IA:Aeronautica.
The Punisher seems way too expensive to use to force Grounding Tests. You only need one Hit for that, so something like Chimerae with Heavy Bolters and Heavy Stubbers seem much more cost efficient there. Especially since, if you're going to be Snap-Firing anyhow, you might as well keep it moving, so it can function effectively as Anti-Air and a Transport at the same time.

I really like my Hydra. Sure, it doesn't have Interceptor, and probably should, but for the points, it's a bargain. It's got longer range than a quad gun, and it denies jink saves. I run mine with a pintle heavy stubber and heavy bolter, and it clocks in at 85 points all told. That's chump change, really.
Hydra 4 Prez 2016 - Anti-air support you can count on.

Hm, I must have missed that in the FAQ... which is weird, seeing as that was the sole purpose of my FAQ search Anyway, why Heavy Stubber? S4 barely scratches flyers. Also, In my army list I have nothing for anti-air. I have 2 Arvus Lighters (gunless flying transports) that I could replace for a Vendetta for 55pts each. Would this be a better idea than taking a Hydra? I really like the Hydra. Taking its Twin Linked Double Autocannon would be cheaper than the Vendetta "upgrade" and would provide my army with another vehicle target for my enemy... but obviously 6 TL Lascannons are better than 2 TL Autocannons.

The heavy stubber is an experiment I'm running to see if the extra anti-infantry firepower is useful pre- and post-flyer targeting. Jury's still out.
And as for the "Which is better" question, for the cost of a Hydra, why not have both? The Hydra will be on the board on turn 1, most likely, so it's got a better shot of taking down a flyer before the Vendetta even shows up. Conversely, it'll be drawing a lot of fire, so having the Vendetta show up afterwards is a nice insurance policy that's also dead killy against tanks. I say run one of each.

Upgrading to Vendettas would be an excellent idea. The Arvus Lighter is, as a Flyer, a pretty good Transport, but the Vendetta is one of the best Units in the Game.

Also, if you're looking at the FW stuff, in Imperial Aeronautica, there's a Hydra turret, as well as an anti-air variant of the Manticore. Just for something else to look at.

Alright, thanks guys. I'll probably stick with the Vendettas.
The sky eagle rockets seem lame, Lascannon stats are nice but there is no skyfire... just rerolls against flyers. Rerolling 6s to hit is still terrible, especially when you have only 5 missiles.
EDIT: It seems they do have skyfire, it was edition one where they did not.

I would really like a Hydra... but I can't see it being worth it instead of spending 110pts upgrading the Arvus Lighters to Vendettas. 110pts for 6 Lascannons is better than 75pts for 2 autocannons, even with the extra armor on the field.

Manticore with Sky Eagle missiles. S9, AP2, Heat seeker (twinlinked), Skyfire and missile special rules.

I've been thinking about the manticore. Have you used it?
