Hello everybody. I am having problems with my veterans when I take plasma guns it seems I kill at least one veteran per turn from gets hot. Would it be appropriate to take most plasma out of my army and go straight meltagun's or take some grenade launchers?

Are your plasma vets equipped with carapace armor? If not, that will give them a little bit more survivability...

Overheats are a fact of life when it comes to plasma weapons. You should be expecting your guardsmen to die in droves anyway, so losing one to an overheat shouldn't be that big of a deal. I run one vet squad with melta and one with plasma, and the plasma squad is in a Chimera. If the inevitable destruction of their ride doesn't kill them, the enemy fire will. In short, if you use plasma, get used to it.

Overheats are a fact of life when it comes to plasma weapons. Not for Tau Anyways on a side note, are you taking your armor saves on the wounds you take from get's hot? The rule does not make it so you take a strength 7 AP 2 hit every time your gun gets hot. You are still allowed your armor save, and if possible feel no pain. This might be why you are losing so many good men.

I take my armour save, its just I always fail it with my plasma vets it seems like a waste of 15pts to have them die in one turn.

When shooting at Vehicles or MCs, the solution is Bring It Down. Beyond that, we don't have a native solution, but if you're open to the idea of Allies, a Rune Priest or BA/DA Librarian can be a huge help with Prescience. Tho neither works when you're meched up. At that point, it really is just a matter of try not to roll so many 1s
