Hello all, i am just starting to build my first Imperial Guard Army (Woot) and i have a question, i am completely and totally under the impression that commissars are the coolest infantry unit ever, and im curious
Can my Commissar be the leader of my Command squad? as in the case of Ibram Gaunt?
i would like nothing better than to have a Commissar be my Army Leader
thanks in advance for you replies

well yes and no.
they are officially not running your army ever. they will not count as an hq or the leader of your squad. however if you take commissar yarrick or schaeffer or gaunt or if you just act as if the commissar is your leader then its all ok.

Schaeffer is no commissar. But if you want to use a commissar mini as your leader you got 2 options. 1. Use a commissar mini as a HSO in your army 2. Use the profile of Gaunt or Yarrick and model an apropiate looking commissar for that (they just won't have an command squad like a normal officer)

Rule wise, you wouldn`t be able to take a commissar as the leader of your army unless you take Yarrick or Gaunt, and unfortunately they are not the traditional commissars.
The only time you`d be able to have a traditional commissar leading your army would be when he executes the officer in command.
Fluff wise, I`m sure it would be easy to create a story to explain why the commissar in the command squad would rank above the officer. However leadership tests would still be taken from the officers profile.

Well, What you do, is you just take a Commissar, and make him a Colonel-Commissar, give him Guants profile, but with his own weapons. and bobs your aunty [Not you personally, i just cant be bothered with Bobs your uncle]
Got a Commissar leading an army, and he uses both Advisor rule and leads.

If It aint game legal, then they can remove Gaunt aswell.
Just say that to them, and then you'll probally get
"Oh, Well Ohkay then" as a reply.
