so i bought the regular cadian box set, and my brother bought the regular chaos box set, we've played 3 games so far, and every game i get molested like no ones business... moral isnt a problem because my troops die before they have to make a moral save.
are the box sets just unbalanced? we have comparable points out of the box.
do i just suck? are chaos just hard for guard?
anyone give me a bit of info or tips?
much appreciated

Chaos are hard for guard.... but if you trawl the 'tactics' section of this forum you'll find lots of handy nuggets of strategic brilliance, military wisdom, common sense and not in the least psychotic aggression..... all of which should give you an edge.
My advice: Buy as many infantry doctrines as you can in the 'dex, and use your infantry squads as stromtroopers...

I would guard against any assumption that the army one gets in the boxed set is anything like "balanced" when you try to work their points vs another Battle Force boxed set.
Its all about doing the research and trying out the combinations of doctrines, tactics & loadout (optional wargear) to fit your own unique playing style. Sometimes the terrain or your inital deployment will work against you, so pay close attention to where the choke points or wide fields of fire are, and take advantage of them during the depoyment phase.
One final thing: There is no substitute for experience... KEEP ON PLAYING and make mental notes of where your army starts disintigrating, what led to it, and what (deployment/doctrines/wargear or tactics) you could do differently to get a better outcome.
Another thing - vary the goals. Are you guys just playing straight annihilation? Try changing it up and playing for mission objectives instead of "last guy standing wins."
It tends to even out the chance for victory somewhat when you feel "outgunned."

Yea i am still fairly new with 40k (played Skaven Fantasy) so i know i need to practice we've actually been mixing up the objectives alot, the first game was a objective the 3rd game was actually a Bunker assault (i was bunkered) and he STILL wiped me out within 5 turns which was really discouraging thanks for all the helpful advice everyone, appreciate it

Guard relly on tactics and strategy. Hide in cover, dig in like nobodys business, take doctorines and equipment that will actually save your arse instead of useless stuff that wont help. A

lol my trick pretend to by genoriuse let them set up first if there arogent they will deploy there hevy game wining stuff in the open redy to rush stright forward for your where he thinks is coverd tarrien.. then you place your big guns and tanks around to lay waste to him... play to counter that how I play

mmm..... ok look.....what are your hvy Weapons? If they are heavy bolters shoot the berzerkers. if they are lascannons shoot possesed. if they are autocannons.....you can kill anything on the board decently easy.
For your tank should totally own everything. You do know how ordanance works right? You dont roll to hit just scatter? if so.....my guess is you might not roll well or he rolls exceptionally. Your set looks like it should totally own his.

If you dont mind me asking what have you been doing with the Russ? ive been having him stay back by my lines and shoot at the Rhino and Possessed squads, im gonna try putting him farther into the action so they have to try to tackle him first before they can get to my infantry

OK then use plama at it when its gets close. Focus the Tank on everything your not confident in killing with troopers. And remember that you dont roll to hit wiht ordanance. If your in line of sigh just roll 1 scatter like: 1 scatter and 1d6. hope that helps!
