I've been assembling my guard, and I finally got to the weapons teams. I vaguely remember reading somewhere not to model them the way they're illustrated for some reason or another, but it escapes me. What's the best way to do it?

I`ve never heard of any reason not to model them the way they are illustrated, I`ve never had a problem.

Okay. I guess I'm just retarded or something. I figured it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and ask forums.

well my trick is too modle the handerler knealing and the louder standing up that way you can make one of the other stand weapons (althought you can make the ML with out the kneeling legs it looks wierd if you have a mortot team standing up so have one kneeling and the other standing up wid a las gun and base them on a pice of plstic card or what ever you can get your hands on

Maybe you heard people talking about how they mix and match the standard guardsmen with the heavy weapons team models. You can squeeze quite a few heavy weapons teams out of just one box.

I usually just have auto guns.
Just to save on kneeling legs... Mm-hm, automated bolters, lascannons, autocannons, well...missiles and mortars cant be helped...but still.

lol what i did with my heavy weapons was i glued the tripod to the base but didn't stick ANY guns to it, that way i could alterante heavy bolters, autocannons and lascannons. For the missile launchers i bought a cadian shock troops and used them to make 2 missile teams (i bought 6 special weapon teams) For the mortars, i found the small round bases and stuck them on, again using the left overs from the cadian shock troops i bought, made them look like 2 mortar squads.....and that my friends is how you save up on money (sort of) cheers

I can get three heavy weapons out of a single box.
1.A lascannon/autocannon team (1 kneeling, 1 standing) 2.A standing guy with a rocket launcher 3. The tricky part. I model a lying-down guy with a bipod heavy bolter. I use the arm that usually holds the binoculars and a standard gun-arm for this.

well i refuse to use the large bases. i instead before to model the guardsmen holding the gun. what i have done so far is only with my autocannons by now.
what i do is i get the cadian legs that look are braced for impact. i then use a normal head and torso. i then take the flame thower arm cut off the tubes and pipes off. i then took my autocannon and cut that little bit off of the end. i glued the flamer gun part to the autocannon and put that on the torso. i then used the grenade or flamer thrower left arm to help hold or cock the gun. and simply becuase it looks unrealistic for a guard to be carring the weapon like that i took the bipod and just added it for support. the guard looks extremely kick ass and i just add another guard model as his loader.
i hate the large bases simply becuase they dont always fit into the terrain i want. that and im entirely want to build a sort of automated defense turret. i just take bitz and pieces and make it look like a turret. i do this and add two guard models to make a heavy weapons team

The large base offers some confusion to your opponent only because they tend to view the team as one model instead of the two models that it really is. Hence when you start placing dice upon them to show that you have taken the one model off they look as if it has two wounds.
Rules clearly state that the team is two models and the FAQ clears it up that the larger base is only used to make movement and placement easier.
