Well here I am back to the awesomeness that is the IGMB. Except this time I am bringing some not so caring Necrons to the board. I had always wanted to build a Necron force even back when I had my guard army. I was going to make them kind of like a terminator kind of force with the guard mostly because that is what they remind me off. However after a series of unforeseen events that lead to the sale of my old guard force I decided to give up the hobby........... For like 3 months.... Damn thing is addictive lol. My plans for this atm are not that great. I don't plan on playing at all. My local GW is not worth the trip going to, and the friends I used to play with, along with myself, are busy with work and their lives. So really this is just to give me something to do on the weekends as sort of a relaxing hobby. Building my Subaru is way to expensive anyway. So here we go.
The theme for these guys is not really that complicated, yet I feel it is going to challenge me in getting my painting skills up towards a level I feel is adequate with most of the members on this board. There are a ton of people on here that have inspired me start painting and get better and I hope with these guys I can get there. The theme I chose for my Necrons is underwater. Mostly going with a heavy rust/faded look with some verdigris effect you get on metal that has been under water for a while. I had the idea for a while, but found an amazing model online with exactly what I was going for.
So here is my first tester model. Not going to lie looks like crap, but I discovered somethings I need to do and some issues I want to fix when I paint the others.
Things I want to change.
1) The highlighting looks like crap. I used the tiniest brush I had and it still looks way to thick. My idea to fix this is to use dry brushing instead for the highlighting.
2) The gauss weapon looks bad. Mostly because again the highlighting is way to much. This fix I think I am going to try a 50/50 mix with the darker blue and lighter blue and possibly do a fade from the center out light to dark.
3) Verdigris effect I am not sure on atm. Seems a bit much, but then again it could just be I was sloppy with it. Might try to water down the blue I used a bit more to let it fill in the areas I want better. Only issue I think I would have with this is pooling.
4) I want to try and do OSL on these guys, but as of right now not to sure how I would go about that with out taking away from the aged look of the model.
5) Actually paint the base before I apply the sand. As you can see in the pictures above the sand grains are so small the black of the base is bleeding through. I will paint the base a close tan color of the sand and see if it looks better.
I am going to be building the rest of the guys tomorrow and priming them for paint. Going to try another tester with the changes I stated above and see where that gets me. If anyone has any ideas for me to try feel free to let me know.
