Hi, I'm new and I was just wondering if I could get a little help. I just started with 40k a month ago and I need a little help. The nearest GW store is over three hours away and only one other person in my piddly little town plays the game(he splits my army and uses it, at least until his SM come in) A mortar's weapon range is listed as 48G, I was just wondering what exactly this meant. If you could please fill me in I would be much obliged, Thank You

A D3 is when you roll a D6, and then halve the number, rounding up.
Roll D3 for this.
1-2 = 1 3-4 = 2 5-6 = 3
Get it?
Scatter dice determine how far, if so, does something scatter. Launcher an artillary barrage will not always score a direct hit, sometime it will scatter, by rolling the scatter dice, you will find the direction in which it goes, and how far with a D6 inch roll.

Guess range isn't really used any more so u don't need to worry about that, u can fire mortars indirectly up to maximum range. U used to be able to target the ground by using sneaky guess work, added a little skill and experience to their use, but removed to speed things up I think.
D3 explained above, scatter dice have 2 hits, and 4 arrows. Arrows indicate scatter. U can use a normal D6 if u don't have a scatter dice, 5 or 6 are hits, and the following direction for scatter. It isn't as sensitive, and only gives 90 degree options. this should really only be used as a work around.
1 4 2 3
Invest in a scatter dice if u intend to use battle cannons, and mortars.
