Hi All, I played Warhammer Fantasy as a child/young teen, but gave up and moved onto Magic in my late teens. Then at Uni I forgot about gaming completely and concentrated on other interests In my early 20's I returned to Magic and played quite seriously for a few years winning tournaments etc. I'm now in my early 30's and have decided to return to Warhammer and give it another go. I collected and played Dwarves for Warhammer Fantasy, but sadly all the miniatures are long gone, therefore I now have a clean slate to begin again. I looked at the army lists on the GW webstite for FB and decided that Dwarves are still my favourites. However, I don't really have the desire to buy the same miniatures again, and as such, have decided to try 40k instead. Having studied the 40k armies available I have fallen head over heels for the Imperial Guard. Out of all the miniatures available I find the Guard miniatures the most interesting and the Commissar is just downright cool. I have so far bought the rulebook and the Imperial Guard Codex and have been studying them intently. The Guard codex is brilliant in my opinion and the army possibilities seem great. I'm currently working on my first army list and once it's sorted I'll buy the miniatures and get painting (and hopefully playing as well). If you're in Berlin then say hi. If not, then say hi anyway. Ta, Pete

Which guard miniature range attracted you to the army?

Hi, pforson, and welcome to the site. Great choice! The Guard are one of the most characterful armies around, and its easy to add your own personal touches.

Impressive. The worst I did there was pee on the Rathaus Schöneberg. In my defense, I was drunk, it was three in the morning on a Tuesday, everywhere with a restroom was closed and with all the christmas trees up around it, it was the best place I could find to get out of sight to take a leak.

It was a mixture of things that attracted me to go for Guard. I don't like Space Marines, evil chaosy monstery things have always left me cold and the new Tau miniatures look like child's toys (IMO). So I started looking at the Guard army list on the Games Workshop website. I discovered that the choice of units was immense, most of them look cool (particularly the Commissar) and I liked the fact that they were regular people.
I've since bought and read the codex and my liking for the Guard has grown exponentially.
My favourite Guard miniatures are: Commissar Primaris Psyker Commander Chenkov Valhallan troops Kasrkin Storm Troopers
I also love the idea of fielding Rambo (although his model is a little boring). I'm not crazy about the tanks / heavy artillery, but they are growing on me. I can't, however, stand the Chimera (ugly plastic box) and won't be using them.
I have never assaulted anything or pee'd anywhere in Berlin.
