I was wondering, what is the traveler name for currency in the Imperium? (Like how Rotgut booze refers to low grade alcohol in general) And also, what is it's buying power? (I may be using the term incorrectly, what can I buy for x amount of z) I remember reading somewhere how Thrones are used in the Calixis Sector, but since I don't own either Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader, I was wondering if someone could fill me in.

"Thrones" are the generic name across the Imperium, although there may be regional terms, especially if a debased form of Gothic is spoken, or the culture doesn't interpret the Imperial Creed in the traditional sense (and therefore might not have the "throne imagery). From what I understand, there's rarely standardization of the coins themselves beyond the planet or subsystem, but since they're almost always made of gold, it's easier for them to have a constant value of some kind across multiple planets. Of course, how far your Thrones will take you depends on the planet you're on, and even what part of the planet (same as using gold here to buy things, values fluctuate). As far as I can tell, there are no "10 Throne" coins or whatever, and no paper currency that's widely used in the Imperium. If those kinds of things are being used on a planet, they will pretty much be only valid on that planet, and the planet will probably still have to accept Thrones too if they want to do any business with other planets.

Pretty much what Reds said. Only with the addition that the very poor and the very rich probably deal in either their own currencies, like cigarettes and prisoners.

Thrones are probably legal tender backed by a gold standard. What makes the most sense for people with more than a handful of them to their names is an electronic debit system.
Most people in the Imperium probably never see an actual Throne coin, instead getting bare living necessities in exchange for labor. Or "labor."
