nice, let us know how it plays. waiting for my hard copy from amazon. Currently seems to be hit and miss with reviews, either they love it or dislike it. Also quite a few bugs again (seems simlar problems to Shogun 2)

not any more. If you pre-ordered got the Greek states for free. Now it's the game+£5.99 for them. I got a better deal with a hard copy but now gotta wait for amazon to email me the DLC code.

Ugh lame, Im not paying £6 for what is likely 3 factions... if it's like the first one you can unlock all factions by changing a .txt document, playing as the papal states wasn't fun

Holy nuts, amphibious invasions are awesome, even if the UI is sort of crap.

yeah i hate the UI. Think the engine is much better now though, seems much better then Shogun 2. Only thing that slows it down is the size! so many factions at the end of the turn >.<

Only thing that slows it down is the size! so many factions at the end of the turn >.< I counted between 105-110 factions total. Some had been destroyed by the time I thought to count, but still, the AI turn takes ~45 seconds, which is more than it sounds like. Also, I have a veteran legion now that I speced up for melee infantry combat (bonuses to attack and armor) and holy hell, they're psychotic. They buzzsawed through five units of hoplites and the enemy general's bodyguard while storming an encampment gate, while under missile fire, and only lost two dozen men. Reds

I think there's ment to be something like 125 total factions at the start. I've got my book next to me for when I end turn. I'm working on something simlar but with missile bonuses as well. I find the javlins are a nasty way to weaken the enemy before crashing with the infantry.
Not sure Adken, not got that far north yet. But they will likely cost double the upkeep of a normal unit.
Oh and my game Carthage lost it's capital to rebells and now Libya owns it!

You can't play as the English?!
Also I can't get online up here, what I thought was an Ethernet port is just a phone line

Nope, there's the Iceni, but I've played as Rome first.
Just a heads up, retreating is still stupid. "shall we follow the road back to the other army? Nar! let's go off the road in to the mountains, losing 1/5th of the men to attrition!"

Isn't the point that their panicked?
I don't understand... is this one not based on history then? :/

Routing is when you're panicked. Retreating can be done in an orderly fashion, so there isn't much excuse.
Anyone else finding archers to be slightly pointless? Their range is so short that they on;y get one volley off against an advancing enemy before having to run. Also, my empire is now in near constant revolt due to squalor. I'd strongly advise against upgrading every building possible in a province, because that really drives up the squalor in the cities. Focus only on farms, military production, etc, and leave the rest at base level if you can.

I find with most total war games you can't expand above your means without consequences. You need to take a handful of land, upgrade it then move on. If you take too much too fast you can't afford to improve it enough AND build troops so you end up with two towns watch in a crappy city which won't last long. I'm guessing it's similar

I'm guessing it's similar Weirdly, it's the upgrading that causes the problem. Most higher tier upgrades inrease squalor (and decrease public order) in exchange for something, be it improved troops, more food, more money, etc. That means you have to balance the income, recruitment, food, and happiness between all your regions, usually by specializing each province for something (Rome for military, southern Italy for food, etc). Not ran in to any archers yet. Have just got 2 legions with level 3 weapons, armour and shields and another that's got gold chevrons on all 19 units (General makes 20 but they die before getting gold lol)
And got the same problem Reds, there's some techs that increase public order and I'm focusing on them for now, should at least mean I can get 1 new building per province. Might also switch the few cattle farms I have over to grain for the extra good. I think I can take the slight economy hit, making 6.5k and only got 17 settlements so I'm happy with that.
It is historic but factions still have random actions, different wars and so on. There are historic mission goals you can go for they give you a large amount of money.

I think they need to halve the public order penalties from squalor. As it stands now, you can have a province specialize in food production OR in military production, as you're forced to have the rest of the building slots in that province given over to public order buildings. Of course, you can also try for a secondary specialization in money instead of food, but then the province will be in constant rebellion, so you need to have a detachment of troops there. Otherwise, your best bet is to hope the profit from farms and fishing harbors, and tax income, is enough to support your empire. Realistically, it takes two food provinces to support a military province, so it's sort of a pain in the ass to try and balance all that if you don't have the money to expand.

I think they need to move farms out of the towns.I can understand the other buildings but that just seems out of place to me and annoying. Also don't get how having more crops increases squalor, ok cattle they make a mess, but grain? I don't see how some of them cause it, just seems a way to try and stop you growing but then you end up with stacks of cash and nothing to do. Guess I could lower tax rates and build up.

That would solve a lot of problems. If they removed the squalor from farms by moving them out into the countryside (instead of in the middle of the town or whatever), that would make it possible to focus on the Money-Military-Order triangle.
I would also like to publicly salute Legion IV Fretensis for engaging and destroying an army three times it's size for less than 250 casualties. I really can't stress enough how awesome legions with extensive tooling are.

I meant historically accurate as in no English... I thought the romans invaded us :/
In Rome TW I once had 180 Spartans kill a full army from Carthage, maybe 2000-2500. They were half peasants and the majority of the rest were town guard but still its impressive... I have some old screen shots somewhere.. it was 3 computers ago mind...

The English didn't exist till after the Roman period. This is Britanic tribes I just had a 13 minute battle, 1300 enemies killed. 13 of mine. rank 9 legionaires with top level shield, armour and weapons aren't spacemarines at all lol.
