The king of the rumba beat invited me to open my first thread here. Said the community would be encouraging to a newb like me. I've been a Dawn of War player for so long now, and I've been painting models for about half of that. So I bought a battle box, an agies defense line, a basilisk, and a chimera. Last night I sorted through all of my clipped bits and segregated the parts into a jar dedicated towards my white stripe platoon. I don't know why... but that just seems like the right place to start. From what the Modissair said in another thread, "buying the rule books will answer a lot of questions," and that will happen. My brushes and exacto knives and rattle can primer's will be busy enough till then. After that my Sentinel from the battle box will be assembled with magnitized weapons/mounts (I'm sure most of you are aware of that whole shtick.) ...I was hoping to also magnatize them to convert between scout/armored game by game. That doesn't look easy, or even do-able... but we'll see when I get there. The Heavy Weapons team is next on my list after that. After watching a game and reading a little on these forums they are probably going a little missile heavy. Idk if I can mix and match an auto cannon in there, they certainly seem impossible to magnatize so that I have the option of swaping out the models game by game. but uh.... yeah, buying a codex and rule book.

You can do the scout/armor sentinel swap with tac glue, local hobby lobby will have it. First thing is to clean all the mold lines out of the pieces you're using, dry fit before gluing, prime at least a foot away, thin down your paints, rinse your painting water frequently. welcome to the board!

So the scout/armor sentinel swap IS possible. Thank you, it's a little hard to tell while it's still on the sprue. Don't want to clip that walker out before I've gotten done with my white stripe platoon. Anyone else have any advice for a first time 40k initiate with a new investment into the the defense of the imperium? *update* Literally dragged a friend into help me with the menial labor of my cadian battle force box set 'tm' ...and we think we are cleaver. Picture's possibly pending~! After some brainstorming over the blueprints, we believe that the best method of making the sentinel convertible... is by boring a magnet under the head of the guardsman pilot and another under the top hatch.

Welcome to the IGMB!
*Takes a tissue sample from the new conscript so that clones may be produced as required*
You'll know why when it happens. That1Guy will become ThatManyGuys...
*Issues the new conscript with an inch square piece of single-ply cardboard and a penlight that is missing its bulb*
Use this equipment to go and take down that rampaging Daemon Prince over there!
Upon successful completion of your mission you may be allowed to petition the Munitorum for better equipment.
Enjoy your time on the board, and remember than sanity is optional when venturing into the Underhive. Also, look into trading bits with members to get spare parts that you need so you can turn one weapon team into multiple teams (using the spare heavy weapons that you don't use in the initial build of the kit and sticking them on to parts you can get from swapping with members to make additional teams). You might not even have to magnetize the Sentinel's weapon mount and weapons, as on the newer style kits the weapons seem to fit quite nicely without need of magnets--although the magnets could give you extra peace of mind for not having the weapons fall off and become lost. As to making the Sentinel so you can swap between scout and armored--that is ambitious. I'm not sure it could be done with magnets, however you might be able to pull it off with careful use of a pin vice drill and pins...

Yeah, it does seem very difficult to magnetize the sentinel to swap between scout and armored variants. The magnates are already bought and paid for plus I'm actually looking forward to it.
Thanks for the advice trading bits, I'll check it out.

*Sets up the previously obtained tissue sample in the rapid accelerated growth cloning chamber to produce a new That1Guy who will continue to fight for the Emperor* Magnets are never a bad investment. If the Sentinel cockpit magnetization doesn't work out you can always use them on other projects. Magnetizing the hull weapons and the Basilisk and Chimera is always a good option.

I thought only the death korps cloned new recruits.... fluff talk aside. The basilisk and chimera are getting their hull mounts magnetized regardless of whether or not I can figure out how to turn the sentinel into a convertible.
The way my battle box is being divided up it's looking like I'm going to buy another (during a sale).
Yeah, these magnets are pretty spiffy. A read solid investment, yessir.

Heh. The cloning thing is something that started here on the board, shortly after I joined, but I forget how, but I became the driving force behind the insanity, and it extended to greeting new members--however I have been having to delegate to others lately due to demands on my time from being a grad student. Just be glad there wasn't a cloning chamber mishap! We had quite a few of those happen in the early days, with amusing abominations resulting. However, that particular brand of insanity usually took place in the Today thread in the Underhive section of the forum.

Imperial intelligence reports indicate that a tyranid attack will beset my force as soon as it is assembled for duty. This hive mind has EVERY kind of bug you can imagine (even a few forgotten) anyone have any good advice vs. 'nids?
Maybe just something to keep in mind during battle? From the sounds of what I am reading on the boards here my basilisk won't see much use before the horde is run beyond the minimum firing range.
...or just crawls out of the ground from under it's treads to attack it directly!

Unless they changed it, bassies can still fire directly with no minimum range.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well, although since I haven't played since the end of 5th edition I'm still shaky on the new rules...

I've seen one full game of sixth (where it was played all wrong right after release), and seen two more partial games. Just do not have time for playing 40K right now thanks to school, my gaming is now confined to X-Wing and Star Trek Attack Wing (and I'm not even sure I will be playing those until December once I've graduated).

Alright read the rule book. Now to get my hands on a codex. Any body know if we are getting a new codex soon? I've heard lots and lots of specualtion at my local gathering station, lurking about here on the forums leads me to believe we will see new kits soon, but I haven't heard of any new codex.
If the Guard is getting a new codex soon I'd rather save my money for more conscripts and just wait honestly.
