As a player fond of all things with an engine (and often wings), having a tank to get rid of the enemy's own armoured units is key in my lists. Usually, I go Devil Dog to keep up with my Chimeras, but I've been thinking of using a 'sniper' tank. Should I go for the Pask-ifiable Vanquisher, or the Destroyer (whose rules I have for are IA1 outdated, but seem nasty)?
Bear in mind, I have never played a game with my full Guard army. I still need to buy more tanks.

I'd go with the Destroyer, let me know if it's any good.

If people let you play with Forgeworld, take the Destroyer, just because it looks cooler. The Vanquisher might be a safer bet in terms of actually getting to use it. Keep in mind, though, both are somewhat limited in effectiveness.

Reds Yeah, Reds can attest that (when I used to have time to play) my Pask-uisher rarely ever did anything except die horribly without coming anywhere near to making its points back. Of course this was back in 5th...

Yeah. I think Vendettas are still the way to go, although the Vanquisher looks so freaking cool.

The only way I've gotten good mileage out of a Vanquisher is with an Allied Psyker along who had access to Divination.
I once kicked it up all the way to running a pair of them alongside a DA Librarian with Prescience and a Power Field Generator, so they had a 4++ as well. Expensive, but wow those blew holes in things, and after I dropped the Fire Prism there was basically no real threat to them on the board.

I am bemused with GW made the Vanq unable to fire conventional battle cannon shells, like it used to be able to. It's like they don't understand "combat utility/points cost" tradeoffs.

The loss of the template coupled with low BS makes it weak. Pask is too expensive for what he gives.
The Manticore is an excellent tank hunter. Unlimited range, high chance to pen, and possibility for three hits. Also doesn't need LOS, ignores intervening cover saves, and blast template spam makes it effective against nearly all targets.
