Whelp, time to add Cosmic to the list of names whose submissions I shouldn't click on the picture post forum if I don't want to feel inferior by comparison.
That is pretty amazing. The strategically placed snow looks awesome and really takes it to the next level. And the flamer is really cool.

Yes the thawing snow is really what finished it off beautifully. Puddles of melted snow might've been another touch but that's not too distract from the pure lovely of the model. Proof that the tanks are so well designed (and painted) is in how believable the piece is in such WWII drab schemes.

Must figure out how to lure Cosmic to my basement and chain him to the painting station that I really need to get set up...

The strategically placed snow looks awesome and really takes it to the next level. And the flamer is really cool. But but but...I don't want to be on any list *bursts into tears*. Thank you though, Yvain. Yes the thawing snow is really what finished it off beautifully. Puddles of melted snow might've been another touch but that's not too distract from the pure lovely of the model. Proof that the tanks are so well designed (and painted) is in how believable the piece is in such WWII drab schemes. There are actually two attempts and a frozen puddle cleverly disguised under the tank as they failed miserably I always prefer 40k tanks to be painted in a realistic colour, just to make them that little bit more realistic. The only colour I wouldn't mind would be a dark, rust red colour, that could be pulled off just about. And cheers Must figure out how to lure Cosmic to my basement and chain him to the painting station that I really need to get set up... I swear my time on this board is spent being chained up and forced in slave labour or being put down on peoples hate lists!

You know that my desire to chain you to a painting station is driven purely by how I hold your painting skills in awe, and you know that I would provide you with all of the bacon that you need!

Cosmic, How many hours do you think you spent on this masterpiece? The snow effects are brilliantly done! I would be too scared of botching the model to try it on my own tanks.

Hmmm that's more acceptable then a bacon roll every hour would do nicely. Cosmic, How many hours do you think you spent on this masterpiece? The snow effects are brilliantly done! This took me two afternoons to finish, about 10 hours in total to paint. That's not counting the time to build it and prepare it though. The snow is very simple, it's just ground up rock salt :-) nothing fancy at all and easy to do so give it a go if you can

Cosmic,
Ground up rock salt huh? I assumed that you had used woodland scenics snow or something like that. I'll give that a try tho I think it will most likely turn out looking like monkeys throwing their poop at the wall.

Was it me that turned you on to using rock salt for snow effects, all those years ago, Cosmic? I vaguely remember someone asking if they could make their own snow material by crushing glass into powder, and--knowing how dangerous glass dust is--I went all Consuela with the "No. No. Noooo..."

Lol it was like early this year, wasn't too long ago! I do give you credit for keeping me on track with the salt, I had used it before then but you did persuade me to keep on using it I think.

cosmic remind me how to do rusty surface / edge effect again? ive got some forgeworld weathering powers ive never used is that what you use? + how do you apply them for best effect. Weathering powders can be used in many different ways. The first is to brush them on dry with a nice soft bushy brush, and then apply a pigment fixer either by airbrush, pipette or brush to seal the pigment in place. This creates an overall dusty or muddy (all depending on the pigment) finish. Once one application is dry you can sprinkle or dust more on in layers to build up as much as you want to create the look youwant. Another way is to mix the pigments into a wash with pigment fixer or white spirit. You can tthen brush it on like a wash and as the liquid evaporates the coloured pigment will settle in the areas you want, around rivets, armour panels etc. Just have a play first and get used to them you can streak them for rust streaks, or pile a load on for dried or wet mud. The rusted and chipped edges are done by sponging brown and black oil paints on the armour edges.

Fantastic job! It's those extra details you've put in that really show the rest of us up! Thank you very much, Jud I've been doing Removed's Russians today and the T-34/Chimera is painting in a very similar way so keep an eye out for it. I hardly show you all up though, I learn a lot from you lot! You're the ones that keep my painting, so many cool ideas floating around on here

Haha I'd hardly call it viral, but what the hell I'm proud of it thank you Hendrik Here's the actual picture.... Just like the Praetor, I am getting this one printed onto a canvas too The guys of the Doom of Sevarus Prime are doing some fantastic work and they've helped me out a lot lately and we're working on a bit of sharing plan. I help them in any way I can with models etc, and in return I get some work posted to their page. By the way, if you haven't already and you're on Facebook, I would appreciate any more followers on Cosmic Creations, my FB page
