Hey that red on white looks sweet! If i would have done the bases, i would have done a dark grey with a drybrush though.

I was thinking that they were fighting in some kind of Mechanicus facility... Eh,I think it looks pretty good with the red though. yeah. Definitely.

I always have liked the Mordians. Use them as my Command Squads, because I haven't been able to pick up more than a few. You've done a good job with them here, nice colour scheme, pops well.

I love the colour scheme! Only thing is it looks like you haven't coloured the lines down the trousers. .. whatever their called. That would look good in the red also.
Mordians are by far my favourite unit, I only have about 30 2nd ed Mordians so I can't make a whole army with them but they will eventually be my command squads too

Off to the far right out of the picture are a bunch of heavy bolters. When the need arises, I'll get some brass tube, and convert them to auto cannons. Apparently they didn't make them for the Mordians back in the day. You guys think I have enough las-cannons? (There are twelve of them)

They did make Mordian Autocannon, at least eventually. I've got one. There was some point in 3rd where they filled out the line so all the IG lines except for Steel Legion had all five Heavy Weapons. Most were still missing at least one of the Special Weapons, tho.

Dude that is a ton of Mordians. I thought I had a bunch with PCS, five full squads and a bunch of lascannons.

Duh, I've seen the auto cannon before. I must have just blocked it out for some reason. Yeah it's a lot, good reason not to have disposable income lying around. I think 40% of the army is lascannon and heavy bolter teams. I will also say this has put me off metal minis. Not to easy to work with.

I was wondering..How did you get such a large haul of Mordians? Did you buy them in bulk or in tiny tiny bits each time?

I may have some old metal Catachan autocannons laying around and I could give you the autocannon bodies (going to use the rest of the carriages to try and make Segway "rough riders") if you want them so you don't have to chop up the heavy bolter bodies. You could gimmick the carriages so you could swap out the HBs for the ACs as needed, since the gunner should be in the same position for both guns. You can also find loose autocannons on eBay occassionally.

I was wondering..How did you get such a large haul of Mordians? Did you buy them in bulk or in tiny tiny bits each time? There was a guy on ebay selling them in lots. Bizarrely enough he was in the same state as me! But yeah, they were all in lots so I didn't bother cross referencing one thing with another.

Gonna love seeing this lot in their shiny uniforms, in parade ground order. Think they'll kick ass on the table top too!

It's a MANTICOOOORRREEEEEE..... It looks so shiny because after I was done painting I went over it with a brush-on gloss clear coat. Now this was to help the capillary action of the wash flow into the recesses. In modelling books the clear coat is usually applied with an airbrush. Afterwards the gloss is toned down a coat of matte clear is airbrushed on. Now my model appears a bit shiny, I think because I brushed on both coats and simply by virtue of not being atomized by the air brush they went on thicker, thus more of the gloss remains "showing" though the entire vehicle has been clear-coated with matte. In the future I think I'll just stick to the brush on matte coat. Also, the stripes on the warheads were difficult, the masking tape, once cut to proper width was still too wide to wrap around the cone shape in a straight line. There would always be a slight bulge wherever it was last taped. Please ask for clarification if you don't know what I'm talking about. Perhaps cutting even thinner strips of masking tape would result in less "bulge" albeit, thinner stripes.

Looks really good! Some weathering powders may help to reduce the shine a bit. I really like the stripes on the nosecones of the missiles, and I like the non-traditional placement of the stripes on the hull.

Looks good!
I prefer to use a matt spray (Tamiya TS80) after I've finished with the weathering powders
If that's your first Manticore, don't be surprised if you add another (or three) after it wipes out a land raider or something similar in one turn of shooting!

Awww yeaaaaahh Manticore all the way! Though I kind of have a soft spot for the old basilisk. Especially in a Mordian army. @trooper 1974, What kind of weathering powders? Forge world? AK interactive? Andrea? If memory serves right, I think Vallejo puts one range out too. dangerrod, Yeah, unfortunately it's 20 degrees Fahrenheit or -6 degrees Celsius for our European and Canadian friends. Not good weather for spraying. Also, brush priming is kind of slow. Say have you guys seen my tape measure?

Flamers and Commissars And the Flamer's back! A Commissar! Ten-Hut! Really these are some of the more gorgeous commissar models. Not necessarily my paint job, but just the large hats. Got to love them. His back! If you're curious, I undercoated the gold bits with red in order to give them a richer tone. This is similar to gold-leafing techniques. In East Orthodox Christianity, when something is gold leafed it is over a red coat of paint. This shows through and gives the gold a very nice depth. In the west it is a yellow coat of paint. This produces more of a brilliant and bright coat. Also it's not as noticeable when the gold leaf flakes off.

That's a great idea cause the gold paint is so thick and doesn't thin nicely.
Nice job also btw.

I think your army looks great and it's rare to see such a large Mordian amry..think it will be very impressive when complete..
As for the shine on the manticore, i use the brush on hardcoat just before highlighting, makes it dull just a little bit but the vehicle will keep a bit of shine, since metal/hull has some shine.. plus it looks better in the display in my opinion..

Loving these. Nice to see another classic guard army marching to war.
Love the colour, very similar to the normal Red and white so feels natural but the slight purple tinge stands them out.
I'm very jealous with the amount you have, wow!
Rumours say new guard (in a few mnt) might have plastic Mords, I can't see it.
Looking forwards to seeing them compleat.

I have returned. With me come 1000 points of Mordians.Without the Leman Russ. And another little side project. Close up of a Platoon Leader and some troops: For whatever reason the previous owner sheared the teeth off of the chainsword so I guess he's just going to have a power sword from now on. I also filled in the armor detail on two of the figures to make them less ornate. Then I painted them with with the gunmetal and silver to denote a lower rank than the company commander who wears gold. The hat trim and coat trim are still gold though. I also sculpted the sash around the company commander, I felt he wouldn't have an ammo belt around his waist. I don't know maybe. The chain of Command backs. Mordian Melta My very own Mordian Vox Caster! Super Rare! Mordian Heavy Weapons Team! A Lascannon! That sure is snazy! Pretty Neat Huh? I'm looking forward to playing with these bad boys.

Ready for something completely different? How about a Savlar Chem Dog? I actually had an insane idea where I was going to make all the bases for an all Savlar army out of the corpses of Cadians. This base was actually cast in resin. However there were lots of areas, namely the areas that are now bloody stumps that were actually air bubbles. So the great casting scheme fell through. I then ordered some "hollow" bases and built about ten of the "corpse bases" that were considerably lower than this base. They would have been umpteen times easier but would have been a royal pain to paint. Think 60 infantry figures let alone 200 and you get the idea. So I think these will just be one-offs. I had a lot of fun sculpting the stumps and organs of the corpses. The figure, of course is a Krieg trooper. His grenade launcher arm is a Cadian one, the sword arm is actually a trimmed down arm of a Mordian Commissar. It was a "duplicate" shall we say. His back-pack was a pack from an M-60 Patton Tank model I had laying around. I even made tiny straps out of putty! How crazy can I get? This is how crazy I can get: I drilled out five tiny holes in the grenade launcher with my pin-vise. Then I rolled up tiny balls (or ovaloids) of putty and let them dry. Then I painted them gold for the grenade rounds. I cannot stress how much fun I had building this little guy.

Nice grenade launcher mod. I also like the corpse bases; I would imagine they would effectively double or triple your paint workload with all that detail.
