Ok guys so im cracking on with my ultramarines at the moment now the T hawk is near completion.
my question is how should I do the weapons? most metallic parts are basically lead belcher but for the casings I have been using red (darkened by a null oil wash) which I quite like and harks back to the old school primary colours scheme of ultramarines, having said which I always use gold for the trim as I never did like the old yellow trims. Im sort of happy with the red, not so keen on black casings but have been considering chucking in some copper to replace the red.
here is an example of troops and a dred with red weapon casings....
and here is an example of silver and copper weapons on the t hawk that have been washed over with nuln oil.
I thought that on larger vehicles the red stood out too much and looked a bit goofy, but on troops the red bolter casings etc didn't look too bad.
