My Rebel Transport which I got for $13 off on Amazon (and free shipping) just arrived. ...aren't those usually unarmed, or equipped only with point defense? They don't have any weapons at all. But they can do stuff to buff Rebel starfighters near them, or mess with Imperial starfighters. Plus they can also be used to ram smaller ships out of existence (although there's a chance that they get damaged too in the process). Plus there are scenarios based around using one (or more) of them in a game, which essentially boil down to the Rebels trying to keep the Imperials from killing it (or them) and the Imperials trying to kill it. The upcoming Corellian Corvette, on the other hand, will be able to take all sorts of weapons, and even comes with a longer range ruler than is used in the current game.

The transport is a giant target... Get it from Amazon--I got mine there for $13 off MSRP, and with free shipping. Edit: Oh, and I got inspired and popped in at my local Barnes and Noble today and snaffled up two more TIE Advanced minis, so I can now field a flight of them.

Just got back from my game with Canefire and my friend Kevin. Was tons of fun--they managed to table me right before the store closed, and all named characters (Biggs + R2-D2, Chewbacca, and Nien Numb in the Falcon for the Rebels, and Boba Fett in Slave I for the Imperials) DIED! 'Twas glorious. My last surviving TIE Interceptor (from Saber squadron) managed to get in on the Falcon's aft quarter and point blank it for the kill before getting blown out of the sky himself. I also managed to get my grubby hands on this:

Yeah man! It was a great game...400 points of awesomeness on the table. I think my one B Wing survived only because of my bonehead Kturn at exactly the wrong time. Good stuff! CYA next week....same time same station.

Hopefully, if I've recovered from the plague that I've contracted by then...

While not having managed to recover from the plague yet, I did recently get my hands on another Slave I mini for cheap ($10 off coupon at a local hobby shop that was about to expire and was convenient to my route home from a follow up with my doc about "teh diabeetus."). I stripped it, and re-painted it to be a generic Firespray-31 with a generic bounty hunter pilot (whom I shall call "Frenchy."). Discerning individuals will notice the phrase in Aurebesh applied to the orange panel under the cockpit. That phrase is "Suck it!" Opie & Anthony FTW...

Not X-Wing per se, but a fun little diorama-rama I just posed with my 6" Black Series Sandies, Han Solo, and Greedo. The lament: "Ah, Greedo. If only you hadn't been a dildo, you would have spared the Empire no end of trouble, and could have been handsomely rewarded..."

Re-worked the diorama-rama a bit to show Boba Fett having been cut out of the action:

I don't even... WAT!? I definitely can't wait for 6" Black Series Chewbacca, C3PO, and Obi-wan and Luke in Tattooine garb to be released so I can have them scattered about the scene as dead 'uns (hopefully C3PO will have Bespin es'sploderatin' action), and work R2-D2 being taken away as a a prisoner.

So I just had an awesome game with my pal Kevin in the Super BasementTM...
He took Han in the Falcon with 3PO and a Gunner, and Chewie in a second YT-1300 with "Draw Their Fire."
I had 4 Academy TIE Pilots, Howl Runner with "Adrenaline Rush," and a Delta Squadron TIE Defender with assault missiles.
I played very conservatively for the first few turns and drew Han and Chewie into an asteroid field and then swarmed them. There was much ships running into each other and into asteroids action--I didn't lose any of my ships to asteroids, fortunately, but lost several from direct fire as I was whittling down the shields and hulls on both Rebel ships. At one point I rolled an epic dodge (4 dodge dice against a range 3 shot, and all came up dodges). Han ended up killing himself by flying through an asteroid when the Falcon was down to 1 hull point remaining (3PO obviously told him the odds), and Howl Runner blapped Chewie three turns later with a range 2 shot (Chewie's YT-1300 had absorbed a ton of critical hits that otherwise would've destroyed the Falcon prior to the asteroid strike) that came up with a hit and a crit when Chewie was down to 1 hull point, and my friend only had 1 dodge die to roll. I lost the Defender (didn't even get to use his missiles) and three of the Academy pilots.

I picked up the started X-Wing set, and played a game with kids at the library last week. Thinking of running it during the summer (summer reading theme: Heroes), along with an old DnD boxed game, and some other board and card games. Right now sticking with the basic rules, which are pretty easy to run.

its a great game and any of the additional models can be played using the 'quick-play' basic rule set
the thing that takes me a while to get used to is that the movement is longer than i expect due to the way the movement uses both front and back edge of the model base
(mainly because i am used to the 40k system which measures from front of base to front of base).

Ran a couple demos with the teens today for May the Fourth. Here's a question -- is it possible to get replacements for the little plastic plugs in the circular movement selection bits? I've lost one, and while the two cardboard circles are still held together by the other plug they come apart more easily than I'd like.

I am not sure... If you haven't already, join the NOVA Squadron page on the Book o' Face. You can ask there, and someone may be able to point you to a place where you can get replacement dial pins.

A coworker brought in the figure-based Star Wars starter, will have to look at it.

I've heard that the minis are awesome and they seem to paint up really well from what I've seen on the intertubez. I'm not a fan of the Space Hulk "board game" style of play though. I think I still have the old, old (from the 90's) Star Wars miniature battles game rulebook kicking around somewhere, and the playing pieces from Impy Assault would be perfect for it...
