Hey
Im trying to write my own narrative campaign, for me and my friends to play. About the recovery of a Baneblade from a now deserted planet, or so they think..
And was just wondering if anyone here, had tried or done this?

I base mine on history. My Guard are inspired by the Commonwealth in the Far East, so here's one I developed based loosely on the Finschafen campaign of late 1943.
I only got to play a couple of these, but they were a fun change of pace.

That sounds good, and gives you lots of structure to base and probably stops you getting overly side tracked

Well, if you want a narrative campaign, there's a few questions you will need to answer.
1) Why are the troops being dispatched to get that Baneblade? Imperial troops are easy, the Baneblade is a mighty weapon and an important relic too. Think of why other races want that Baneblade too.
2) How did that Baneblade get there? Are the enemies you face now the same ones that disabled it in the first place? Have those enemies been there since they first disabled said Baneblade or did they come back when your troops arrived?
3) What kind of structure do you want for your campaign? Is it a flow chart, where you win battle A you go to battle C, but if you lose battle A you go to B instead? Or is it set, that no matter if you win or lose battle A, you got to B, but with consequences. For instance, if you won battle A you could get 10% extra points to spend on your army.
And so on!

What rough ideas do you have? That is what i have written so far Played with (Two) Astra Militarum and one guard/Chaos 0) The planet was battle scared after a century long war had ravished the flora and fauna, the war was only stopped with an outbreak of a hideous virus that had killed all prior combatants and natives leaving just their solid metal machine still around. A small Astra Militarum scout party has landed to see which of these war machines were salvageable and could be used once more, before the main company arrived, in the coming weeks. 1) The Scout force goes to the coordinates of the Vehicle maintenance hangers, to see what is in there to report back. Get attacked by Rogue Guard units that had hit in the dark side of the planet obscured from Scanner and Psychic view.

OK, so where did the rogue Guard come from? Obviously they didn't survive the earlier battle? Is it possible that several opponents have come to investigate/retake the ruins at the same time?

as the virus spread over the planet, the astra militarum high command councill agreed to send out a psychic distress call. Not for them, since the biovirus could not be stopped, but for the salvage of the regiments most precious member. The venerated baneblade 'Maximus est'. High command knew that the bio virus would leave the mighty war-engine unharmed and ready for the salvage by any after the bio virus had long rid this planet of any life. With that they knew all too well that traitor regiments roamed the sector, looking for new resources to spend in their everlasting war against the emperor. They knew this mighty warmachine could not fall into their hands, it's mighty machine spirit become corrupt and it's wrath turned against the imperium. with only days to spare before the entire planet was void of any life the tech priest began burying Maximus Est, ensuring that any salvage would take time. Time the imperium would need to reply to the distress call and send out a salvage force. Time that would delay the traitors should they arrive first. Time that would decide the fate of Maximus Est.
mission 1: Seek and report:(can be played chaos VS imperium and imperium vs imperium, since the Maximus Est is a prize worth fighting for) Both players must try to secure any of the 6 objectives. all of these objectives are secret and only 1 of them contains the dataslate which holds the exact location of 'Maximus Est'. A player may chech if the objective he controls contains said dataslate but is not forced to tell what the objective contained. after turn 6 the player who holds the objective dataslate wins the game.
Mission 2: War enfolds standard battle?
