Hi Three years ago me and some friends each bought ourselves an army. I had long drooled over the fluff of the imperial guard, and bought two battalion packs (Each containing cadian command, 20x troopers, 3x HWT and 1x Sentinel), a Hellhound, a Leman Russ, Lord Commissar and the command advisors (astropath, master artillary guy and naval officer).
I really never got to assemble and paint the whole army before the years exams, and after that I didn't return to the hobby. Lately I dug my old WHFB Empire army from the tombs of childhood, and I'm having a blast with them. Then I decieded to check my old IG army again, and the new rules. Seeing that you now actually can include Space Marines in our beloved Guard, made me really excited of starting up again.
Well... yesterday I bought 60 damn models from Victrix miniatures range, Napoleons Old Guard. So in a couple of weeks I'll have:
40 Cadian troopers
60 Napoleonic grenadiers (I'll use these as conscripts or... I don't know. Perhaps I can equip some of them with special weapons.)
3x Missile Launchers
1x Leman Russ MBT
1x Hellhound
1x Company Command (with standard medic and vox)
3 of the HWT's I haven't assebled yet. What should I build? Autocannons or Lascannons?
Should I buy more veichiles, if so, which?

While you can never have enough troops (it says so in the IG handbook ) That should be enough for you to play some games assumming you have a decent mix of special weapon in them. You could use your Napolenonics as regular IG and Cadians as veterans if you like. Missile Launchers suck pretty bad . You need some auto cannons and maybe a few lascannons. You are going to need transports 2-3 will do. A few chimeras and maybe a short bus if you are into it would help. You will need at least one other tank so you can use the Tank Commander unit which is pretty boss. Not to encourage you to spend more money, but the cadian defense force is a pretty good buy. As it comes with a tank and chimera and 25 more cadians. Plus 3 heavy weapon teams. After that it is based on play style everything else is optional depending on how you want to play your army. Artillery is helpful. Or maybe a Valkryie with some magnets to switch to Vendetta as needed. Also probably an aegis line. If I had your stuff, the min I would buy would be another Leman Russ kit (the demolisher, punisher, executioner version) and 2 Chimeras.

Thanks a lot. The two chimeras would be used as bunkers for the command squads right? I'm still reading up on the new rules, som I'm kinda clueless.
I don't really think I need any more foot sluggers as of now. I'll have 100 when I've done the monumental task of glueing those poor sods together. Good idea using cadians as veterans though.
I'm currently working on the new paint scheme. The ones I have painted are two shades of green, which is kinda boring and takes a long time with that many soldiers. I'm thinking on spraying them with a base of white, then wash with a blue wash and highlight in white. Will that work as snow camo?

You need the Chimeras to move around. 7th is a little different in how the game is played in that you want a strong footprint on the battlefield with the ability to move where you need to as quickly as possible. I don't play fantasy (are there even objectives in it?), but 40k is always about scoring. I feel like Guard can still win by tabling your opponent because we have a lot of firepower. I did a write up of my opinion of things over here: commissar.proboards.com/thread/18226/7th-edition-imperial-guard?page=1&scrollTo=381493 Hopefully, it makes sense to you. If you have some questions post them here or in that thread and I will try to explain further. I can't help you with snow camo, I hate working with white. I am sure someone here can though. The best I have seen is a mixture of light blue, greys, and whites.

Yeah, I've actually read that. From a fluffy point of view the Guard should a mass of infantry, more than the enemy could ever hope to kill, backed up by heavy support in the form of HWS, Tanks and Arty. As we also can field an Allied detachment, wouldn't it be good to use Marines in spearhead charges?
The Guard has mass, and it has alot of firepower. Can't we just push the opponent away from objectives with massed fire and furious, fanatic, glorious charges by our nutsty, but zealous infantry?

You can! That is what I mean with a large foot print. A blob of infantry or conscripts held in place with either a priest or commissar can occupy a huge amount of terrain potentially sitting on multiple objectives. The only downside is your can only control a single objective at a time. You can easily fit 2 50 man platoons and 2 50 man conscripts in an army for just under 900 points. Plenty of room in most games for HS. And with a priests and probably a lord commissar, those units are really hard to remove. Especially if spread out to avoid pie plates, which by extension also helps you score. The forward unto the emperor order can also keep you shooting and running which helps you gain ground. Straken might also be helpful as well if you bring so many guys.
The thing you want is to just keep scoring as much as possible. It sounds no brainer, but every secure objective X card you draw increases your chances of getting one of the power cards like kingslayer or blood and guts which are worth a lot of VPs. I think transports are the best way of doing things especially if you need to reach an objective far away. However, a blob army is pretty viable.

I just love the tactical objectives. I hope they'll introduce something like it in the next edition of Fantasy. Thanks for helping me out btw
