Greetings from England. I've been playing Warhammer 40,000 for 10 years now through school, university, joining the British Army, a new job and a house move. I love the Imperial Guard for many reasons, it's nice to find a forum for us Guard collectors. After a year out I've come back to the hobby and how things have changed! Feel like a newbie and thought I'd make some observations and comments to make sure I understand.
1) Name change. After decades of being called Imperial Guard, we're now called 'Astra Militarum' I understand this is something to do with the inability to copyright the term 'Imperial Guard'.
2) Stormtroopers. Again, a name change. Again, not to my taste at all. A separate codex for them as well? I never thought a lot to them as units anyway, thinking them expensive points wise for what you get. What are the thoughts on fielding these? Worth it?
3) New models, new look. I collect Imperial Guard because I like the look of them, futuristic but not too dissimilar to modern day armies, I can believe troops and tanks will look like this is the 41st millennium. Ogryns, Bullgryns and the Taurox makes me want to weep a little bit. I never liked the look of Ogryns so never fielded them, and certainly won't be in the future. I don't care how good them make these units, if I don't like the look of them, I won't field them. Are they any good then?
4) Old models, old look. Still no Tallarns, Vallhallans, Steel Legion
, Mordians, Pretorians or Death Corps boxed plastic models available in large quantities. I'm a cadian collector but love the look of these other types. Was really hoping they'd start doing these so more people can field them rather then buying expensive metal ones or Forgeworld models. If GW are producing sub-codexs for Scions then why not produce sub-codexs for different Guard types a bit like space marine chapters. Are they an others that want to see a return of these guys?
5)7th Edition rules? Before I started my break I was still getting into the 6th Edition (really liked them, balanced and fair) are there rumors of a new lot already?
