Hey friends, there's been something on my mind that I've been wanting to execute. Behold a picture. This is a picture. Now look at your hands. These are not a picture. Anyway, what I wanted to do is replace the hammer with a lasgun to make this bit the banner of a new IG army. How would you go about this? I would just go at it and try it myself, but as I have just two of these bastards, I don't want to go in blind. Any suggestions?

You mean replace the hammer and the long handle with a lasgun?
Tricky.
First I'd set about carefully cutting the top bit off of the skeletal hand, with plastic clippers or cutters. Then I'd cut the bottom bit off, with clippers and then smooth it out with a stanley knife. The middle pole bit will be the trickiest / messiest bit, but you'll have to gouge the plastic pole out without damaging the arm or the scroll, again with a stanley knife (being careful not to break the blade) and a small round file to clean up the messy bits.
Then you'd have to hold the lasgun up to it and chop it into segments, perfectly, so that the segments would fit in place of the pole/ hammer. You'd have to carefully cut bits out of the lower 2 lasgun segments, at the back, to allow it to fit in.

It is hard to tell from this angle. Is it possible to attach a lasgun to a GW skeleton arm and replace the entire arm (or just the hand) on the banner?

You could try and cut the top and bottom off then use the mid section as a long barrel for a custom lasgun? Just using the stock below the banner and the muzzle above the arm?
Looks like a urine load of work either way

Top and tail it and then carefully drill through the middle.

I suggest that you cut through the model vertically, running in line with the right-hand edge of the hammer, past the shoulder and down through the scroll untill you reach the end of the cloak.
This would give you loads of access to carving out the hammer handle and with a little bit of green stuff it would all go back together seamlessly.
... but then, I just love my razor saw!
