Hi - I built up a Guard/AM army in 5th and 6th edition but havent played it at all in 7th and am looking to give it an outing soon, but am not sure what impact the new rules have had on my list and whether its a decent lit for all-comers. Any advice welcome :-)
This is what i used to run:
HQ CCS (4 meltas, chimera)
TROOPS 10 vets (3 meltas) in a chimera with a minostorum priest 10 vets (3 meltas) in a chimera with a minostorum priest
Infantry platoon (CCS with 4 meltas, 2 squads with grenade launchers, 3 autocannons) with a Primaris Psyker (lv2)
FAST Vendetta (I have 2 of these if needed)
HEAVY 3 Leman Russ vanquishers 1 Hydra (I dont have one of these yet, but like the model)

If you play against a lot of armour, like landraider spam, this list will do pretty good. If you run into any infantry, you have little to nothing to deal with them. I'd suggest changing these few things.
#1. I would change up your CCS. Sit them back with the blob they will be more useful there. I'd equip them with a vox, regimental standard and lascannon. This sets them up perfect for giving orders and gives you a little extra long range anti tank.
#2. In your veteran squads I would drop the priests and one of the melta guns. The priest will not be put to their fullest potential as in chimeras veterans don't need to be fearless, and also they will defenitely not be assualting. As for dropping the third melta, my thoughts are why pay for a weapon you cannot use all the time. With only two firing points in the chimera now I only ever bring two special weapons.
#3. Are the three Autocannons a heavy weapons squad? I'd suggest taking the heavy weapons in the Iinfantry squads as a blob instead of as a heavy weapons team. They will cost less, recieve orders better, and be more durable.
#4. Why a squad of three vanquishers? I'd suggest either one or two squads of one or two tanks with hull lascannons. Three tanks may be hard to maneuver and find fin viable targets. With multiple squads that means more maneuverablity and being able to fire at multiple targets.
#5. Sadly hydras have yet again gotten worst this edition. Now that they can only fire at flyers and skimmers at full ballistic skill, and can no longer ignore cover they are just a more expensive quadgun. I do agree that the model looks pretty badass. Might I suggest taking wyverns instead though. They are incredibly effective at killing infantry and look almost as awesome as the hydra. Plus they cost a bit less.
But that's just my two cents.

Thanks for your full reply, that's REALLY useful :-D
So, I am looking at something like this?
HQ CCS (regimental standard, vox, lascannon) Primaris Psyker (lv2)
TROOPS 10 vets (2 meltas) in chimera with t/l heavy bolter 10 vets (2 meltas) in chimera with t/l heavy bolter PCS (2 meltas, lascannon) and 2 infantry squads (grenade launchers & autocannons)
FAST Vendetta
HEAVY 2 Leman Russ Vanquishers (lascannons) 2 Leman Russ Vanquishers (lascannons)

Yeah the list is looking great!! I did notice I forgot to mention two things to you though.
First off, for a Vox caster to work both the squad issuing and receiving the order need a vox caster. That means that you will need a vox caster in your blob as well.
Secondly, the PCS is one of my favorite squads because they can fit nice and neatly into a Vandetta. This means they can be quickly transported up the field and can actually deep strike out of the transport anywhere it moved over. So with this in mind I suggest these two loadouts. 4x melta guns, for dropping in on unsuspecting tanks and blowing them up, or 3x flamers and a heavy flamer, for dropping in on unsuspecting infantry an burning them alive. This saves the low transport capacity problem of the Vandetta and the question I have of what to do with the PCS.
Also I noticed you have TL heavy bolters on you chimeras. Unless it is in one of the Imperial Armour books chimeras heavy bolters are not TL. Also with that in mind the multi laser is actually the better weapon than the heavy bolter for the chimera. It has longer range and one higher strength which can help a lot with killing MCs and light tanks.
PS. I just totalled up the points of your list and you are only at 1420. So I'd suggest you add another infantry squad with an Autocannon to your blob, and a master of ordinance to your CCS. The MoO is a really fun unit but not reliable at all, but there is something about an infantry man dropping a str9 ap3 large blast with barrage that gets to people even if it is almost guaranteed to scatter away.

Hi, Thanks again! I forgot to add the Wyvern in that last list, so i have just enough points for the MoO, but not another blob - esp. if I use meltas in one loadout:
HQ CCS (regimental standard, vox, lascannon) MoO Primaris Psyker (lv2)
TROOPS 10 vets (2 meltas) in chimera 10 vets (2 meltas) in chimera PCS (either meltas or flamers) and 2 infantry squads (grenade launchers & autocannons)
FAST Vendetta
HEAVY 2 Leman Russ Vanquishers (lascannons) 2 Leman Russ Vanquishers (lascannons) Wyvern

Ah I see, wyverns are an excellent addition to any guard list. At first I didn't see the benefit of them, but the volume of shots, twinlinked and shed tears through infantry. They are my answer to tyranid venomthropes! I personally would choose the flamers over meltas for your PCS. You have plenty of anti tank so more melta probably won't be needed. Also this will give you the points you need or a vox caster in you blob, with 10 points to spen on what ever.

That's quite a solid list for those occasions when you're up against marines who use land raiders. The vendetta, the 4 vanquishers and the melta vets are all solid anti tank units. If you're looking to make an all rounder list then try to get a couple of leman russ turrets from a bitz site (if you live in the UK I recommend 'Bits and Kits') and assemble them with either normal battlecannons or those Nova cannons. Battlecannon are great ; long range, strength 8 and most importantly they drop large blast markers. The Nova cannon ignores cover so its good at killing infantry hiding behind cover.
