So my local gathering station is having a big discount trying to reduce it's Warhammer Fantasy stock. Does anybody have any idea's on models I should look for in his selection that would really make a great conversion into my "Bits'n'peices" Imperial Guard force?
Anybody have any links of other nerds who have attempted such a feat? In fact any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have had great use from the Bretonian Men-at-arms and peasant bowmen, the Empire pistoleers, great swords, and flagellents are also highly useful. The Empire Wizard is good for making primaris variety psykers.

Chaos marauders should fit in OK, and I've seen men at arms used a lot.

Pick up an Empire wizard box, it should have a great set of bits to use in making psyker conversions.

Yes, the Chaos Marauders work readily with the catachan bits.

Greatswords, Pistolliers, Soldiers of the Empire, Handgunners. Greatswords in particular make an amazing conversion kit.

Hmmm.... REALLY like the hand gunners, but I see a lot of potential with a lot of your suggestions. Went down yesterday to look at the store selection and I was really curious with a boxed set. Comes with hand gunner's, great swordsmen, halibard charging infantry that I wonder if I can convert into bayonette charging soldiers of the imperium, & calvalry... which would make sweet death riders.... or what ever they are called. Y'know those horsemen that the krieg regiments get.

Okay, so I got the Empire Battalion boxed set for 40% off. Soooo many cool bits! You guys are awesome!
Does anybody know if any of the Fantasy Ogre's are compatible with the new ogryn kits?

they aren't, but you can convert some sweet, less high tech looking bullgryns from the fantasy ogres

Yes, I was about to suggest Ogres. You could almost use them as is with the close combat options (shields and power mauls), or can add spare Cadian grenade launchers for ripper guns, and festoon them with leftover pouches, purity seals, bits of Leman Russ armor, etc.
I've often thought you could use Wood Elves to make forest-dwelling, Tanithesque troops.

Well as a matter of fact this business man has a bulky ogre supply and plenty of elves that are not moving. I imagine come his next sale, they will be significantly discounted again. There are no shortages of elves either!
With this kit I have soooo much to work with, there are enough cavalry here to run two squads of rough rider's. This will occupy me for months!

How much "converting" are we talking about here? What kind of difficulty can I expect? Sorry to hear about the raver pattern thunderbolt. I hope you managed to finish it though? if not, post up how far you got, and we can compare notes! as far as ogryns go, the hardest part would be getting cool gun poses (as the arms are quite monotone) and good guns (but ork players could help you with that) As far as bulgrynns go that1guy already posted some lovely converted ogryns, i went the (really) easy way with my bullgryns: fill up the belly to make it look like a bare beerbelly. Put some greenstuff on the tip of their shoes to create a more combatboot-look, and painted some camo on their trousers. Note i use the original ogres weapons. I'm counting those as those mauls+smaller bucker shields, attributing the 5+inv save to their deep trust in those little metal things (if it works for orks, it works for ogryns!)

I used some Empire Outriders and Volleygun crew to make a horseriding missile launcher team for my horseriding CCS. I also have an astropath made with bits of High Elf wizard and the head from a wight.

Well look at that, I started a hot thread! These are all great ideas. Right now I'm converting over a bunch of the hand gunner's with Cadian canteen's and helmet's glued on instead of those poofy hats with all the big feather's in them.
We're just clipping off the hats and replacing them with the standard cadian helmet. It's a good look for my army, I like it!
There are so many bits I can't help but make some sweet conversions
