hello peeps...
not been on much recently due to lack of hobby time but ive got a question for peeps that have experience using resin.,....
ok so some may remember I had a thread last year showing the progress of my thunderhawk gunship build (forge world resin one)
so anyways when the model arrived it had the usual defects such as the classic twisted fuselage section which was an absolute female dog to straiten, had to use almost boiling water due to the thickness to soften the resin. anyways I managed to get it near perfect and this was documented with visual evidence in the thread. its also well documented on the web as a defect with the casting from time to time.
anyways after completing and fully painting the model I put it into storage as I was moving houses etc recently. I decided to get the model out again for display and the fuselage has twisted back into its original twisted shape!
now none of the top sections fit when I place them on and the whole thing looks a mess. its like its "reverted back" to its original state. now as far as I know it hasn't been exposed to any form of heat and I wasn't away that resin could return back to its casted state. im sure it is aswell because the fuselage twists and drops in exactly the same way I had to correct.
now the problem is I could simply try and twist is back but with the heat I would need im worried im going to ruin all the hours and hours of painting that went into that section of the model.
ive dropped forge world a line but I expect its far too late for anything official to happen but thought its worth a go, a new fuselage would be nice as the rest of the model is spot on.
also would I damage the paint finish submerging it in hot water???

That is an unfortunate problem. What causes this is that the pieces are pulled from the mold before they are fully set after the initial cure and unless it remains absolutely flat until set, whatever position it is in at the time of full set is now its natural position it will want to return to. Unfortunately putting the painted model in the hot water, chances are really good that the paint will blister. I personally refuse warped parts as no matter what you do, it will always eventually return to its warped state.

yeah I should have sent it back really at the time I know but I had researched before hand and the general agreement was they all come warped and need to be fixed at the customer end. forge world are normally realy good with returns its just the length of time its been that's the problem. I would be happy with just a new fuselage. but lets face it the material cost for a whole kit wouldn't break the bank for them as the price represents the art and the machinery costs. anyways ill wait and see what they say, ive sent several pictures from when it was built and now to them with plenty more if they want any more evidence. absolutely gutted and would mean even with repair I might get the same issue again. I think my problem compared to others is that I did not glue all of the outer hull together in one lump and green stuff the gaps as I wanted the internal details viewable, without the inside the model is worth half the price to me.

Yeah, I think I'm going to stick with the Raver pattern thunderbolt's. Kit bash savings and all.

as expected ive not even got a replay from forge world about this, ill give them benefit of the doubt with them being busy with the weekender and such. ive actually started working on fixing the model now but would be interested to see what they say about the original bad casting.

That's bad. It makes me worried about that Hydra whose barrels I straightened; luckily mine is still bare resin/ plastic.
Off topic but have you seen the new Horus Heresy flier; the Stormbird? There were some leaked pics on Natfka and going by the description in the HH novels they were bigger than T-hawks slightly. If FW stop making T-hawks and GW makes a plastic kit that would be the best thing ever.

just looked at the pictures, this will mean that I need a second escort thunderhawk for the stormbird lol does it also mean I need another 130 marines to justify having all 3? lol its ok looking nothing radical but when I googled forge world stormbird a fan made render was shown in blue and that looked bad ass, had a front end which looked like an imperial cruiser and a rear end more like the t hawk. would love a plastic t-hawk if possible, the only people who don't want one are those like myself who forked out for our snooty nosed resin kits back to the forgeworld replying business I would have thought that they would have replied with some sort of answer as my email was not "you must give me a new kit" it was a long explaination of what happened when and how its now ended up. I put the fuselage section into boiling water in a bucket and clamped it down with g clamps to a flat piece of board when hot before rapidly cooling it with cold water. seemed to get the section just about strait again, a few small details on the underside got disfigured by the heat and clamping but the only paint that came of was paint rubbed by the clamps themselves. I have however glued up all the front sections of the model now so unfortunately I cant show people all of the cockpit area etc. what I was most relieved about was that I managed to modify the rear section so that its still loose and sits on meaning I can access the area which has the fixing screws I fitted for the wings, this was important so the wings are detachable for transport and storage.

ok so major update, forge world have only just replied to me and to my surprise have offered either a replacement thunderhawk kit or a selection of models to the same value. I know have no idea what to do lol as in what to ask for! I do very much appreciate the great customer service though!

That's nice of them.
I'd choose heresy style infantry models; you could get an army of marines in your choice of armour, with dreadnought support and maybe new shoulder pads. What would you rather have than the t/hawk? So, obviously you still get to keep the wonky t/hawk?!

Yep get to keep the old hawk as main reason they are doing this is I showed it happened after spending hours painting it. If it was still in bits out the box I expect they would have just swapped the bad section.
My issue is with buying a load of infantry is I'm trying to work through my whole collection painting it all up before starting a new army etc. Nearly finished my ultra company. Then I have 5000 points of black legiontofinish, mostly part done and then I have a whole load of orks to do including 120 boys lol in short Im thinking larger models.
Was thinking 2 fire raptors, one of each type and an assault ram, or two assault rams and one raptor for my smurfs.alternatly I could go for a legion super heavy like a glave etc. I dunno this is hurting my head lol last thing I expected tonight was to come home and have an email offering loads of cool things free lol

went for ......
2 x caestus assault rams! 1 x legion sicarion venator 1 x ork stompa with head and arm weapons. (forge world)
think they will make a nice accompliment to my collection.
may also order some more bits as I want the belly gun for the stompa but it pushed my freebie list over the amount.

Oh dear... Cosmic is doing a Caestus commission right now, and he said he had a bear of a time getting all of the parts to fit properly on that kit.

Yeah I saw that on Facebook, don't mind trimming and filling just so long as it doesn't twist back after 6 months lol
