Blasphemy! I know! But surely it's been done before without completely and utterly appalling results. My friend (Chaos, Nids and Dark Eldar) and I were talking about kitting out a CCS or PCS for a close combat role. Essentially my PCSs will either be bare bones, have a mortar and vox for orders or will be a 4xflamer death squad-the last one being the most fun My CCSs always have a vox and will give orders to my multiple 20 and 30man shooting blobs which tend to also have heavy weapons in them, otherwise I keep the CCS pretty cheap and bland. However purely for the lol factor we thought what would be the best loadouts for the following: 1-CCS vs hordes of gaunts 2-CCS vs Nid MCs 3-CCS vs CSMs (Mostly against termies) Seeing as we have so many options with special characters, heirlooms of conquest and the like it seemed like you could go pretty crazy with this! What's worked for you guys? I've currently got enough bodies left to make a CCS and am undecided yet with what their loadout will be.

Blasphemy! I know! But surely it's been done before without completely and utterly appalling results. Unfortunately, there is not. Any close to effective builds for CC are usually just to expensive. The base CCS has very poor killing power and survivability. This is even before the lower int penalty. After one combat, it is likely your rank and file will be dead. This leaves you with an expensive and now useless CC unit that is likely to die the next time it fights. The main problem with taking just a pumped up Commander is that anything that doubles him out means you just wasted a lot of points. And he is your only damage dealer. Your two best builds are the Yarrick build and the Straken build. Yarrick build 300+ base: CCS Carapace armor with 2 flamers, Medic with pistol and weapon, vox with pistol and weapon(voxes suck, but it is part of your restriction) Commander - Power Axe or Fist and Deathmask of Ollianus Priest Yarrick The main advantage of this build is the durability increase with having FNP on Yarrick and FNP Commander with the IWND Deathmask. You also have 4 order and two AP2 power weapons. If the priest gets of his reroll save power, it has the potential to increase the life expectancy by a lot. The combination of Yarrick and Commander lets you get around the ID problem, but just tanking wounds on the appropriate character. Straken build: Just under 250 points. CCS with Carapace, 2 sniper, Medic, vox Straken Priest Straken is pretty darn good one his own and better in CC (overpriced). This build really excels at killing standards units like tactical squads or medium tiered assault units. He is also pretty good against med tier MCs. However, he is your only damage dealer. And he is priced like a Captain, but does not have the same durability. It is a mistake to put him up against power characters built for CC. Upgrades: Blade of Conquest- This thing sucks. Why would you get this when 9 times out of ten you are hitting after everyone anyway. Just take a power axe. Deathmask of Ollanius - This is great though it excels better on a Lord Commissar who can hide in a blob and throw sgts to targets that can cause ID. Kurov's Aquila - This doesn't help you in CC, but it is an awesome upgrade that will help out the squads nearby. Astropath and Psyker - These can be force multiples, but in most cases they are red herrings. You have to go in big with the psy phase to get results. Most of these points are better spent buying other units.
