Some time soon I'll be putting together my Elysian Drop Troops.
I like the idea of them taking part in some ship boarding, anti-piracy type operation.
So thought that their bases should look like the deck of some thing like an inter-stellar freighter or cargo ship.
I tried to think of the deck of any cross channel ferry I'd been on as inspiration.
Then I did this ...
I gathered together some of my bits and bought some others that looked like they could be a metal constructed decking.
I then altered a few bits and stuck them together like so.
Some of the bits were too thick compared to others so I actually split them, with a hobby saw, down the middle.
Bit of a tough job.
Heated up all the "Instant Mould" that I could find and quickly but thoroughly pressed it on covering the whole thing.
Applied a bit of weight for good measure while it all cooled and set.
In this case weight was provided by a cast iron pot half full of leftover chilli.
Trimmed the edges off
Then carefully separated the two
So obviously on the instant mould there is a relief negative of the "bits assembly" that I had glued together.
Then I put a thin (or thick if the bit of the negative being used has got deep recesses) layer of green stuff onto the top of the base,
Pushed it hard into the negative to make a positive imprint.
I pushed the feet of the selected figure into the green stuff just to make a good gluing surface.
This pic is on of the "concept experiment".
Then tried a few painting methods.
I prefer the one on the right which was dark grey base, nuln oil wash then a boltgun metal dry (ish) brush.
I'm hoping the negative is big and varied enough to maintain the theme but not be repetitive.
It should be big enough to do many 60mm bases and yet have none of them exactly the same.
Well ... I just thought I'd let someone know about it.
