What should the general topic be focused on? our personal armies and experiences? or for the general storyline of 40k?

I've veery quickly thrown some notes together on the shooting phase, only 431, and may not be the best peice of writting ever. Have a look, see what you think, I can prob play around with it, change, add or what ever if it is the sort of thing you are looking for.
There are some great articles on the GW website, Storm trooper tactics and stuff like that, but I have no idea how or if the intellectual property rights may not allow you to use them. As long as you credit the author and arent making money off it, I think you could prob use some. Not sure tho, maybe drop them a mail and explain the situ.
Anyway, see what u think. I'm afraid I don't have a digi camera atm, so can't help with pics, but I'm sure you could knock up a diagram or mock it up using your own rattlings orsomething (see personal example at the bottom).
Notes on the shooting phase
Targeting
Choosing which weapons to fire first, and in which order is very important, it’s no use using 1 unit to wipe out an enemy leaving another squad that can’t fire at all. So if 1 unit has only 1 enemy unit it can fire on in range or LOS, this unit should fire on their opponents, as otherwise, they may well be wasted. This should be used in conjunction with template weapons.
Fire priority
Usually it is more beneficial to concentrate on 1 squad to do maximum damage (a score max points) before moving on to the next enemy unit. This is not always the case, but deal with the biggest threats to you first. This is down to the specific situation. It may be the assault unit getting too close for comfort, or it may be the heavy weapon teams lurking at the rear. Focus on the biggest threat to you in the next turn, and attempt to wipe it out before it can do any damage to you, rather than spreading your fire to take a piece out of every enemy unit. 1 major exception is pinning weapons. Once a unit is pinned, it can be ignored till next turn, unless you just feel like getting rid of it ASAP, or feel it may take more than 1 turn to effectively wipe out.
Templates
Generally speaking, you want to be hitting with templates first, so as to maximise the number of enemies able to be hit. A Cunning opponent will remove casualties in such a way as to space out the models in a unit, degrading the effectiveness of templates. It is worth giving ordinance weapons a brief mention here. Ordinance has the potential to massacre squads at a time, but it isn’t very accurate. As opposed to other none accurate weapons, ordinance will always hit some where, so a large template is going to be placed, even if the shot is missed (as opposed to other template weapons). This means firing ordinance close to your own troops can be a very dangerous thing to do. Ordinance templates are great, and can kill whole squads so is often worth firing first, however, if there is even the remotest chance that it may scatter on friendly units, these units must fire first.
Personal example. I fired an indirect basilisk shot at an Eldar tank threatening my flank, missed, and the shot scattered on to my Rattling sniper squad, killing 1, and pinning them. The snipers were 1 man down, and useless for 2 turns.

No problem. I'll have a think of anything else that might be useful. Is it just IG, or 40k in general, as a couple of my mates have been working on some fluff recently, but I'd need their permission b4 posting, Eldar vs tau stuff.
Was painful and at the same time quite funny killing my own hobbit, was a lesson worth learning.
I may edit the barrage section some time, as I have found that a missed barrage can be useful if your troops are locked in CC and all going to die any way (I got a very lucky scattter role, aimed at an ork truck, missed, killed my 3 guys lock in cc, and most of an ork squad:)). Probably not what u can really call a tactic tho lol.

Tip's on table quarters
When it comes to taking table quarters there are a few tips which I love to use on the table of battle and can win you the game especially if you are playing for quarters or if you need to take objectives.
1. If you play space marines bring some land speeder’s and only move them 12 inches a turn and in the last turn wont they be surprised when you speeder zooms 24 inches to the objective. 2. Deep strike into a place out of enemy fire which you can move in the next turnto wardss an objective or assault with numbers disabling vehicles and/or killing enough for them not to count as a squad. 3. If for a turn you concentrate half your fire at whatever is holding an quarter you can shred them and waltz in while you contest the other ones winning the game.
Hope these help Blackdeath.
Words: 156
I hope this helps you Alazar its a bit short but better than nothing I guess.

Story line.
"Sir, said the young Comm officer,Comand is reporting sightings of the metal men coming in from the south west of the ruined city. They will enter the city in approxamately 2 hours at their current pace.It seems to be a small scouting force ...the numbers are coming in now." The young corporal hands the Colonel a datapad with the troop disposition. The colonel frowns and his brows knit for a moment. " Corporal, send word to Leutenant Tyrgon and Leutenant Jorgan that their services will be needed A.S.A.P. I want Lt. Tyrgons platoon to hole up in a ruined building along the old promonade.Tell Jorgan that his heavy weapons platoon will set up across from them in the old manufactorum.Tell commisar Steinolf to muster the consctipts we just got in fom Valhalla and place them in that old scriptorum. That should give good cross fire as they advance. What tanks are in from the field now ?"The corporal hands him a list of the armour they have at hand.Damn, most of my armour is in the field. We do have 2 basalisks handy though." "Comm. sgt.Thorbjorn and sgt. Thorvald, tell them to ready Heugen and Munin and set them at opposite corners of that feild.I want the priests to bless every round of those earth shakers and tell them not to stop shelling until they see Nefelheim." I want you to get ready for battle.Tell my vallet i will be bringing my bolt pistol and my power sword, ready my armour and refractor field"He winced a little as the bionic leg didn't respond quick enough when he turned to leave."Oh, and tell Commisar Sygard and Father Martin i would see them in my quarters." The shelling was never ending.Pvt Gunar had just gotten off the transport from Valhalla 3 days ago and landed on this Emperor forsaken wasted planet. He was getting sick, his nose was running becouse the temperature was so hot,he guessed 3-4 degrees C.Ah, to be home on Valhalla. He didn't have time to remanise becouse the metal men were firing and moving forward again. They told us about these metal men, drilled us and tought us how to make a wall of baonets, how to fire in unison and how to march but nothing ever prepared us for these monstrosaties. As they got closer he could see their metal skin was pitted and rusted in spots, there were even ones that he saw holes in.He was sure he had shot one, saw it go down as a matter of fact only to see it stand back up like nothing had happened. The earth shakers were doing their jobs,Thank the Emperor. They were supporting us with shell after shell but the metal men were too close now and they were lobbing shells in another direction.
The commisar, blast that man, was yelling orders at us constantly. He even threatened to shoot my cousin Seigfreid if he took another step out of line.I really think he would have done it too...The Necrons are probably 20-30 meters away from us now, i can see their glowing inhuman eyes,so devoid of life and compasion. The emperor forgive me but i find of feel sorry for these metal men.As they got closer we layed volley after volley into them but they kept advancing, some dropping but many getting back up,fewer falling and staying down.
The next thing i knew i see some soldiers pop out of a sewer grate, looked to be 6 of them. They all had strange clothing on,they had pieces of metal all over them like trophies they had taken from slain enemies.# of them carrried plasma guns, two of them set up a missile launcher and the leader immediately started shooting a plasma pistol at the metal men and shouted orders at targets. The plasma weapons cut huge holes in the metal men, and i saw fewer of them get back up from that. The missile launcher hit one square in the center and it exploded taking one of his comrades with it.These vets were incredable, in no time the metal men were retreating ,then all gone. The combination of our three squads of fire and these veterans with their incredable weapons had turned the tide on our flank.I made i my ambition in life now to be one of these hardened vets. When the battle was over i am going to see whats left out there and do a Yarik, who ever he is.
The sgt, of the veterans turned to us,raised his sword that was crackling with electricity tipped it to Commisar Steinalf and before we knew it they were in the manhole and gone again.
" Get yer heads in this battle guardsman" i heard him yelling. This battle isn't over yet and by the living Emperor if you don't start firing and stop daydreaming i'll show you what it looks like to have a bolter round coming at you.We quickly aquired a new target, some flying metal men and started to fire. This was going to be a long battle. Hope this was what you were looking for, if not my appologies.I had fun writing it =)
