From my email: At long last, the sun rises on a new age of battle! Relic Entertainment and SEGA® Europe Ltd. are proud to announce Warhammer® 40,000®: Dawn of War® III, the long-awaited third instalment of the critically-acclaimed real-time strategy franchise. Dawn of War III immerses players in the escalating brutality of galactic warfare, where they will lead elite hero units and colossal armies to victory, or oblivion. Powerful super-walkers will tower over the front lines as screen-shaking assaults blister the battlefield in an all-out, over-the-top spectacle worthy of the iconic Games Workshop® Warhammer 40,000 universe. Hurrah for colossally out of scale units!
DoW II was such a step in the right direction. Squad/fireteam, with supporting arms, not wildly colossal doommechs.

While the world can live without another C&C clone I did enjoy playing a 40k themed one. DoW2 however... pretty boring.

I was inclined to think DOW2 the superior of the two. It had a functioning cover and terrain system, and actually fought how Space Marines would fight (3-5 man fireteams, rather than 10-man blocks).

I'm in agreement with Lightning here;
I've not got round to playing DOW II yet, though am saddened to hear that DOW III will feature a less comprehensive cover system. It makes me think it will be more 'arcadey' and provide the kind of shiny graphic gameplay that I dislike which will be further compounded by super units and mega heroes.
It would have been nice to have a larger scale theatre with more realism rather than less.
I guess there are plenty of other RTS games that give me what I want and DOW III could still be fun to play.
with time we'll see...

I recently repurchased dow2 forgetting the gameplay was more like a MOBA than an RTS I hope 3 is more like 1.

RTS games in general feature too many arcade abilities.
What we really need is Wargane: Epic 40,000

As soon as we can do model modifications for WG, that will happeb. Because I will do the models - skins and animations and all.
(Don't ask about texturing though).

Was red dragon the last in the series?
Sidebar : None of the hours i put in to games offline seem to count on steam. It says I've hardly played it but i must be between 50-100hrs! I remember at one point its all i played. (Still nuts at it)

is it possible to 'lift' 3D models from other games such as DoW and insert them into Red Dragon?
might be a time saver if it was possible.
Adkepachi - I'm still rubbish, too... it takes good knowledge of the range of your units and the range of the enemies units to know when you'll get a good outcome from a fight, also having good knowledge of the landscape really helps too.

Wait, you could get that cover system to function? I always had like that one dolt in every squad (sometimes more) trying to take the wrong side of the cover. I tease, but to each their own. I loved the 1st DoW and have could spend hours reminiscing about how many young guardsmen I sent off to a miserable death. This new trailer looks uber brutal. Never have I seen Space Marines get decimated with so little glory.

.. and making units from an existing IP wouldn't breach copyright?
I guess the issue is that if you took from Relic you could breach BOTH games workshop AND relic's copyright!

Nope, because I wouldn't be using it for my own profit, which is fair use. Basically, using someone else's work as your mod (as opposed to someone else's ideas) is not a fair use, whereas copying someone else's ideas but as your own work is fair use, so long as one does not profit from it.
