Greeting fellow Guardsmen... I am planning on building a Praetorian Guard army. I am currently stuck on how such an army would be built. I have an idea on what models to use but after that its more of what type of weaponry would they typically use and which army list to use (Codex or Imperial Armour). I am going to obviously theme the army off of the British forces of the 19th century in Africa...shocking right haha..... but if any of you wise generals have any helpful ideas, comments or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

I think your greatest challenge will actually be finding minis. Praetorians are rare, even on ebay. Victoria Lamb minis offers some Not-Praetorians, and both they and Kromelch offer some of the old-style lascannons and autocannons that look like anti tank guns, plus some heavy mortars if you decide to use a Forgeworld list, and some kilt legs if you want to mix in some Not-Black Watch. I would suggest using a Death Korps of Krieg list, just because the slightly more archaic weapons and tactics would fit well flavor-wise. I've no idea how the list held up in 7th, since I'm just easing back into the game myself in preparation for 8th Edition next year.

Krieg would be a good fit I think;
They ignore leadership tests during the shooting phase which ties in nicely with the image of infantry advancing, fighting (and staying) in line formation. Plus they have increased weapon skill for bayonet charges.
The Krieg Deathriders can be really strong unit the charge, so if you want to use light cavalry: Krieg is the place to be.
Emplaced artillery & heavy weapons teams are available to codex:Astra Militarum too. But apart from the slightly better orders available to c:AM, they are pretty much the same. So I'd base my decision on how you want to use the rest of the army.

I was actually leaning towards using the DKoK lists as they seem to have the right feel to them. I am also going going have to do a game based on the Massacre at Big Toof. Once I get my orders in I will certainly be posting pictures.
