Over the past few months, I've put away a decent chunk of money to spend on a new hobby project as a reward for making it through the last big deadline at work this year. The deadline has come and gone, and my discretionary fund got a nice little boost this past week. I've vacillated over a few options, and narrowed it down to what's in the poll. I'm mostly looking for something that's fun to assemble and has a large amount of conversion opportunities using the bits I have, which, unfortunately, means space marines (if Eldar had fully plastic troop kits it would be them in a heartbeat).
Here's what I was thinking for the options...
Blood Angels: All hail the nipple lords! In all seriousness, the BA-unique kits for troops and termies look very nice. I already have a squad of sanguinary guard, and I'd probably add a jump captain and command squad to that. Beyond that, I don't know if I'd go full drop pod or mix it up with mech, which would mean picking up a Baal predator. I'd probably avoid the Death Company, though, I don't like the models that much.
Dark Angels: Who doesn't love angst and robes? I've already got a captain and command squad, as well as a pair of flyers. I don't know what this would look like, exactly, because I don't want to run Ravenwing. Maybe just a small conventional force with robes out the wazoo. I'd be looking for suggestions on what to get to make them feel Dark Angel-y.
Space Wolves: I was just going to write the word "wolf" three dozen times but that's not helpful. I hate thunderwolves, so this would be space wolf air cav. That'd fit nicely into my growing flyer array (nine at last count, five of which are transports). I also feel like they offer the most assembly variety, given how much stuff is on their sprues.
Iron Warriors: This is tied into the Burning of Prospero box going up for pre-order tomorrow. The box has a large number of Mk. III legionnaires, which made me consider grabbing a box or two of CSM and kitbashing them all together to make an Iron Warriors force, maybe backed up by a daemon engine. Also I love that warpsmith model. The issue here is that I have no idea what I'm doing with Chaos, and I'd also have to buy some vehicle support for them beyond what I'd be getting for the other choices.
Prospero plus Extras: This is the 'Boring' option. I'm eyeing Prospero mostly for those termies and the Sisters of Silence, plus whatever bits I can steal from the Custodes. If I pick up that, I may (depending on how they're built) be able to kitbash the Mk III armor marines with spare bits to make them look a little more up to date, and use them to fluff out parts of my Not-Iron-Hands army (10 man dev squads, etc). I'd probably also pick up a dev squad, an assault squad, five extra jump packs, and a regular dread. Nothing exciting, but it's stuff to build and it fits what I have.
Other suggestions are welcome too!
