Today, I was a block away from a hobby store I used to work at years ago, so on an impulse I decided to reward myself for surviving the past few weeks at work, and picked up the Burning of Prospero box.
I'm reeeeally glad I did.
I was sort of on the fence about the Mk. III power armor, but they did an extremely good job with it. It looks heavy, brutal, and intimidating, especially on the larger bases they swapped Marines to. I've been kitbashing them with spare Marine parts I have to fit them into my Not-Iron Hands. The only criticism I have is that their backpacks are a bit stupid to build, but that's it. I've used them to build a full tac squad, a command squad, and a 5 man assault squad with jump packs. Not sure what I want to do with the remainder.
As much as I like the Mk. III marines, I adore the terminators even more. They're very easy to build, and once again, there's a certain weight to the appearance of the armor that's very nice. One of the things I like about the Tartaros armor is that the arms aren't basically sprouting out of the sides of the marine's head, like in normal Terminator armor. It looks more "correct" and natural, which helps convey the sense that there's a man inside some seriously heavy armor. They're a breeze to build, and the special weapon options are fantastic. The heavy flamer and autocannon are snazzy as heck, as is the plasma blaster. So far there are no rules for them in normal 40k to my knowledge, but the wargear (aside from the awesome autocannon and some neat pistol options on the sergeant ) all matches the Cataphractii terminators, so it's an easy "counts as" to field.
They were also responsible for this series of terrible egg puns on Steam between Emptyhat and myself.
The Sisters of Silence are slightly unimpresive compared to what's in the rest of the box, but they represent such a clear and obvious step toward toward plastic Battle Sisters. Also, those fur cloaks? Freakin' awesome. I'm not a huge fan of top-knots on any sort of models (sorry, White Scars), but the good news is that they're the right size to get headswaps from my TTG 2 Not-Sisters, whenever they get here. Also it's hilariously obvious the GW design team used Dark Eldar warriors as a base for them, but that's okay, because those are good models.
That leaves the Custodes. I'm... no a huge fan. They're actually slightly bigger than Terminators, but their build is more like normal marines. I know there was a lot to live up to with them, but I feel like the design team went overboard. The poses are a bit awkward too, and the gunswords are as silly in person as they are in the preview images on the GW website. There is, however, a rockin' cape included (which is sort of too big for everything but a Custodes, grr). My gut feeling is that these were somehow intended to be for a 1/35th scale Age of Sigmar product, and someone just went "Quick, stick some guns on their weapons and shove them in the box". I know they're supposed to be physically huge in the fluff, but if they shrank them down to a similar size to the Tartaros terminators and made the swords less stupid, I feel they would be massively improved.
The spacewolf character, Bjork Fellface or whatever, is extremely well sculpted, and would make a good Wolf Lord for any Space Wolf player, with the chance to swap in different arms or head. Ahriman is well done too (although the Bjork is slightly better just because of all the stuff he has on him). I've no use for either, but I managed to salvage Ahriman's legs to make a kit-bashed Librarian that I'm seriously happy with.
As for the rest of it, I haven't bothered with the rules yet. I pillaged it for the minis. The info booklet reminds me of something from Imperial Armor in terms of the images and information it provides, and it may well be drawn from one of the Horus Heresy forgeworld books for all I know. The tiles they include are pretty high quality too.
Considering the prices, this is a pretty great buy for a Marine player or a 30k collector, regardless of the actual gameplay. I'm very happy I decided to pick it up. I'll try to post some pictures this weekend in my project log of randomness thread.

RedsandRoyals: I'm gonna run them as Cataphractii, and unleash the Eggsterminatus with them
sarrowquand: So your foes will be well and truly "shell shocked"
RedsandRoyals: Scrambled, even
sarrowquand: Well, they'll be able to handle your yolk if they just have enough soldiers.
RedsandRoyals: I dunno, these guys are pretty hard boiled, they can take it
sarrowquand: i imagine that plasma will fry them just as easily as ever.
