In every alien invasion movie, the aliens always attack a major city like New York, London, Los Angeles, or even Johannesburg.
Somehow, Mexico City got overlooked.
By the time XCOM's Contact response team got to the scene, it was too late. The aliens had already gotten what they had come for - their inscrutable quota of human beings. Contact was able to eliminate a small team of the aliens that remained and secured the area, but they lost a man in the process. In addition to the aliens' bodies and what remained of their weapons, Contact also brought back a few canisters of a substance that defied examination - presumably what the aliens were protecting.
Gentlesophs, I am the Kid With A Pen, known here on the IGMB as Julian Sharps, and XCOM: War Interminable is my screenshot-based Let's Play of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, with the Enemy Within expansion, the Operation Slingshot DLC, and most importantly the Long War mod. In this playthrough, XCOM's base in North America is administrated by Canada (specifically, the Canadian Special Operations Regiment), which is my explanation for why I get the Cadre bonus (four of the rookies sent on the first mission get promoted to Corporal if they survive) for a base that is geographically located somewhere in Missouri.
I started the save file the day before I decided to document it, but I decided against abandoning it and starting anew after I successfully conquered a landed Supply Barge UFO in the first month. I only know of one other XCOM player who has pulled this off (Beaglerush), so I'm pretty proud of that accomplishment, and I'm not about to start over and hope that I can do it again.
