YAAAY ... it works !!! Now I'd better put up a better pic That ones rubbish. Amazing how a close up pic highlights all the mistakes you've made. I wanted a more "tactical" colouring for these guys with more subdued, camouflage colours. I wasn't massively happy with this, the first attempt, I don't feel there's enough detail or features popping out but I don't know how to do that without using bright, strong, primary colours and just using subdued camouflage tones. The green on the shoulder trim denotes troops. Capes are only used on parade (unless you're a sniper) so my commander has left his at home. Not such a hard job to remove it but I did have to use green stuff to remodel his right butttock. What I've been Working on today A way of suspending a jump pack Inceptor without a stand being really obvious. I've got to put a smokey wash / glaze on the bottom where the eflux bellows out. so it should have a bit more depth by then.

I like the flame effect. Very cool.

Cheers Paimon, all very experimental with that rocket exhaust effect, a bit touch an go. I've still got some smokey shading to do so I'll update as and when. If I like the effect enough I'll scale up a bit and use this effect as part of a display stand for my Thunderbolt. That'll be quite a step up though.

The colour scheme on the first one is great if you want subdued camouflagey colours. The marine looks very menacing like a weapon of war, rather than a space knight. Are you going to leave the rim of the base green though? It messes with the colour balance you've got going on with the fade into the grey of the city rubble and dust.

Empty, you hit the nail on the head and explained it better than I could. A menacing and uncompromising weapon of future war is exactly the vibe I want to exude from the paint scheme. Embedded amongst the detritus of war for way too long.
What I was certainly not wanting and am trying to avoid is the image of a flamboyant, egotistical and image obsessed dandy. Like Marine Flashheart or something. Its also the reason I've removed all the relics, padlocks and chains, purity seals and stuff. What I'm figuring out now is the addition of real war equipment. Ammo pouches, grenades and other combat equipment.
Maybe a tiny antenna protruding vertically from the side of the helmet. I'll need a very fine yet strong material for antennas though ... *checks the number of whiskers on the cats*
I get what you mean about the base. I may change it to blend into the base top if it really detracts the eye from the model too much. My idea was for each type of unit to have its own colour. Just to be able to ID units and role quickly on the board and make the game easier for me to play (I'm rubbish at playing the game I'm afraid. Like stage 10 Alzheimer's level of rubbish).

I quite like HQs to stand out, especially marines. For my own camouflagey marines I've found a very old RT era chaplain who is much shorter than a Cadian and an old metal librarian who looks like Lord Flashheart the Librarian.
We could say that your marine captain hates Libby Flashheart because he's so flash and glitzy, so when the time came to recover an important relic, the two similar looking chapters ended up actually fighting over the relic, not caring about the consequences, just over who takes the relic back to the Warmaster.

Got to say the flames from the jump pack really add to what are already brilliant models! I like your take on the Primaris, the living weapon is a good way to go. The paint scheme is cool too, very futuristic super soldier.

If anyone finds out that we've been playing murder ball with the relic we're going to be in deep doo-doo !!!

As long as they get it back in one piece, it can always be cleaned up with some WD40....

cool marines, those flames coming out the jumppack stand out really well against the muted colours of the marines

The last stage of the rocket exhaust effect is a smoke tint wash. Another Tamiya product.

The black smoke tint and the bright flame colour have ended up the wrong way around. The cooler, black gasses from the explosion should be on the peripheries of the explosion and the hotter red or yellow should be closer to the centre. I tried to make it that way but found it very difficult to control the tinted wash to produce the desired effect. I could just blame the warp for messing with th laws of physics I guess. I'm at home for a while now so I hope I can carry on with them

Dry brushing should enable you to add the darker colours to the outer areas.
I'm not sure that you need to worry about transparency.

Dry brushing should enable you to add the darker colours to the outer areas. I'm not sure that you need to worry about transparency. The transparency is how I was trying to get the rocket blast effect so I actually wish I could attain more. Maybe I should try to try a different brand of silocon that dries clearer. I couldn't drybrush with the tamiya smokey tint. It's too goopy, nearly as thick as runny honey if you know what I mean. I may well try drybrushing the peripheries of the billowing out blast starting with a light grey and finishing with a jet black. Then ask the IGMB "Council of Cool" as to which looks better. Need to find the time at the moment though ... I'm a long way off from completing my Primaris Chapter.
