For a very long time I have been thinking about buying 3 super heavies to make a DKOK army. I even went as far as logging in to my Forgeworld account, but still i have not ordered anything.
But I would really like to hear if a Super Heavy Detachment is worth trying to build ? 3 big tanks from a modelling point of view is of course fantastic and I would love to build and paint them.
But of course some of joy from playing disappears if a Super Heavy Detachment is an auto loose.
So let me har what you think of a Super Heavy Detachment, and which combination.
Thanks a lot.

I think if you ran Knights, you might be okay due to their ability to mix it up in melee and their Invuln save, but you really do want screening units for any sort of vehicle, even super heavies. For the amount of money you'd sink into it, I think it might not be the best idea.

It'll depend on the chassis a bit as well: the baneblade variants are not half bad in CC. They can shoot their heavy flamers/bolters into the combat they are in, and the rest of their guns ar distant targets. So you dont lose 30% of your army's firepower just because you got charged. Screening them would still be a good idea though.
If you add a detachment with some infantry for screening purposes the army will probably do alright in a casual environment. But regular opponents might grow a bit tired of it after a few games.

Hey Slayer, welcome to the boards. As RedsandRoyals and nutty have said, they'll need bubble wrapping. If you go for the Macharius variants I'd recommend going for the regular Macharius and Vulcan for 2 and a shadowsword for the third (That'll fill out the minimum requirements for the super heavy detachment) I field my Macharius Vanquisher every game and I've found I've never used the armour piercing shells. The regular Macharius' main cannon Is stronger imo. As for Malcador variants, I can't help you there, I've never used them and have never faced them. Someone else may be able to help here. On another note if you go with the Macharius variants they're quite reasonable in pts. So in a 1500pt list you could field all 3 options for around 1200pts and still leaves you some pts left over for your meat shield! Good luck with whatever you choose.

Most of the Malcador variants are 'regular' heavy support choices now so they can't be used to fill out the detachment. I imagine the new rules work well for them though: the weapon placement on some of them is pretty... unique, which made them a bit awkward in 6th/7th.
